@hardcastle
Are you the only guy on here with a wife and kids?
What is you favorite animals outside of dogs.
Wyatt gets handjobs apparently, which is pretty cool. Nothing to sneeze at...
I like the quarry of dogs, also. Hares and jackrabbits, deer (red, rusa, fallow and axis are my favourite deer species), red fox, boar, scrub cattle and buffalo, lots of antelope (but especially Topi and Blackbuck). I also love Tapirs, for some reason, especially Brazilian Tapirs with the mohawks. Rhinos are cool.
I like aquatic life, just in general. I can't possibly go through it all. The variety itself. Aquatic ecostystems are one of my favourite things. From molluscs and crustaceans and insect larva and amphibians and turtles and fish and etc etc. I dream about fish all the time. I could go on and on about the fish I like, just know I like all of them. Sharks... yes but kind of less so than most other kinds of fish. Got a lot of time for the elephant nose and the senegal bichir right now, but that's just right now. I used to have a very large black ghost knife fish and they were my favourite at the time. Also had clown loaches and gold panchax at the time and loved them.
Jaguar is my favourite big cat. Followed by Lion. But I kinda dislike cats in general. I do truly think they are cowards and perverts.
Mandrills are my favourite primate. But again generally hate most primates. I used to love capuchins. Don't know what I was thinking. Primates are disgusting. I think homo erectus seems like he was cool.
I love mustelids. Wolverines, fishers, pine martens, badgers (though honey badgers are a little played out for me). Giant river otters are cool af.
I like polar bears, and sun bears and spectacled bears. I'm warm on bears, they don't get me THAT excited even though I respect them and also respect a lot of the bear guys (and always have, almost as a rule).
I don't like wolves, funnily enough, or coyotes. I don't like the "wolf" look, I don't even like "lupine" dogs. I do like AWDs, Dholes and bush dogs. I like most foxes.
I don't like snakes, my favourite snakes are snakes that eat snakes. I just don't really like them.
Lizards are ... ok. I like Marine Iguanas for some reason, have for a long time. I also like Perenties.
I like crocodiles a lot. I like Nile crocodiles the best, for some reason they look more handsome to me than saltwater crocs. I actually like alligators a lot too.
I don't care about dinosaurs. Used to like ankylosaurus as a small small child. But nah.
I like lots of birds. All kinds really. I like bird watching for obscure random uncool birds. I love ground-scurrying game birds probably most of all. Quails and raels and pheasants and grouses and etc. And I tend to always like cuckoos, even though they are evil.
But I DO also love cool birds of prey. Used to love falcons (peregrine, gyr and merlins were my favourites) but now I prefer goshawks. I also really like tough big mean eagles like the harpy and martial eagle, and I like Hawk-eagles. My favourite bird of prey is the bateleur eagle.
I mentioned "aquatic life" but probably should give a special shout out to pinnipeds and cetaceans. I love leopard seals, elephant seals and sea lions, and I like belugas, false killers and orcas. Killer whales were my "totem animal" for a while.
I don't like elephants, but I DO like mastodons. Hippoes are cool.
Dragonflies are my favourite insect. Have been through heavy mantis phases but I'm over it. Spiders can kick rocks. Centipedes are cool but horrifying. Wasps and hornets deserve respect but are evil. Ants are cool.
I don't really like Australian native marsupials. They just bore the shit out of me, but I love the "invasive/feral" animal scene of Australia. Camels, goats, rams, pigs, deer (the 6 species we have are all extra cool to me), rabbits, hares, brumbies, donkeys, scrub cattle, asiatic water buffalo, banteng, cats, dogs... We have good aquatic life, and birds, and reptiles and arthropods and etc but the native mammals really let us down, the ferals are doing a great job of carrying Australia as an intriguing biosphere, IMO.
My favourite wildlife region in general is probably actually India. One of my favourite things to read about is british big game hunters in india during british occupation. After that I'm probably most intruiged by Europe (the classic "woodland" suite of badgers and foxes and red/fallow/roe/muntjac and pine martens and red squirrels et al) and South America, really both the pantanal and the pampas. African savannah and Pacific NW America are the elephants in the room that SHOULD be most exciting, but I dunno... maybe a little played out for me. Still cool, don't get me wrong. American south-west does something for me .... roadrunners and peccaries and jackrabbits... quite interesting.
But yeah 1800s South Asia is peak wilderness for me.
