What happened around 2012? Why did animal forums start going downhill?

Off and on. I have a "book plan" where I have weekly and monthly goals of so many words per week and month. Basically holds me accountable to see how much I'm doing and when I'm not doing anything. It was recommended to me by an Author/self publishing youtuber I watch and it seems to be a good idea. Last 2 weeks I've done nothing. But it's good to see that and feel bad and do better next week. So the goal on last month was 12 000 words. I actually only did 9560, so fell short. This month I did 9500 in the first week, but then 0 in weeks 2 and 3. I'd only need to do 2500 before 5th of January 2023 to meet my monthly goal, but if I wanted to catch up for last month as well (which I do) I'd do 4940, that would put me back on track for my ultimate goal of 85 000 words by 1st of June, 2023 (which is about how big I want the book to be, but if it goes bigger that's fine too). So yeah... that's basically how I have to treat it. I've tried and given up many different times over the years with many different book ideas. This time I'm using strategies and taking advice from people who write books. It's counter intuitive to me to worry about counting words and all that, I'm more of an "artiste" who works on waves of "inspiration" when they come to me, but I think in real life this is just what it takes to get shit done. You have to be an organised disciplined type of person so I'm trying that. Good luck Antonio. I don't know if this is feasible in your case but just an idea that springs to mind is to maintain a set monthly word count but get more done earlier in the month so that you get a break from writing for the last week or two. Aim to create "holidays" for yourself every month by doing more earlier in the month and less later in the month. When you reach your monthly goal earlier than the end of the month don't just keep writing more words for the rest of the month. Take that holiday until the start of the next month. That way you don't burn out while getting to look forward to having regular writing holidays, while all the while keeping your pre-determined word-count. As well I think having breaks are better than continual writing as we tend to process things and come back better after breaks. That happens with all manner of practices.

That's actually a really great tip, thanks. I have employed a similar basic strategy before in different things and found it worked really great. It hasn't crossed my mind with the book, or I forgot about it generally and it hasn't crossed my mind for probably ten years, so yeah thanks for reminding me and I will definitely apply that mentality going forward.
Another thing I've picked up just in the last week is to not be afraid to write just 100 words or even less in a sitting. Like I sometimes think "well... I'm not gonna REALLY get into it now, so why bother?" and it causes prolonged procrastination. I'm now allowing myself to just write one paragraph, even one sentence. Whatever, don't worry about it being "not enough". Often that will spark more anyway.

What happened around 2012? Why did animal forums start going downhill? I think social media started picking up and diversified into having specialised "groups" at that time. A lot of people started using "facebook" as "the internet" between 2009-2012, and reddit and twitter also came into their own around that time. A lot of us probably "grew out of it" (not me), and the newcomers naturally gravitated towards the main social media platforms. For animal vs animal specifically, Taipan played a huge role in destroying the community. It was weakened by this above mentioned social media phenomenon, but that only made us bottleneck and congregate on one forum. That happened to be taipan's forum, then with no competition he got more and more insane with power and drove everyone away. If he wasn't crazy I think carnivora would still be HUGE despite the social media revolution, because we are very niche, but yeah we've all just dispersed and lost contact largely because of Taipan.

Did you see the old archive forum? It has more than 3,000 members.

Yeah, well exactly. Where are they now? 2009-2012 is around the time message boards in general started disappearing. Even earlier really. All the people from all the animal message boards had to go to carnivora when it was all that was left, this made carnivora huge with lots of members. I'll give Taipan credit for setting it up nicely, putting heaps of work into the profiles and matchups, and just sticking around and persevering. But his people skills have been horrendous and depleted the activity monumentally.
I was trying to think when I first actually joined Carnivora, and now I'm looking on the wayback machine I can see it was a little earlier than I thought. In fact I'm really remembering heaps as I go along now. I do remember resisting joining at first but I joined a lot sooner than I thought. "GunB" can be seen as a couple of the last postings on the 17th of August 2007. At that stage carnivora actually wasn't shit yet. That's on "Carnivoraforum.com" which I'm pretty sure was the first one. I think 2004-2006 rings a bell as the heyday for animalelite and animal face off. I think 2007 is when animal elite and animal face off disappeared, and animal vs animal became a shell of itself. That's when Carnivora became an actual thing. It's funny I notice a username "bringbackAFO" at carnivora around this time. Lol.
I had trouble with Taipan very fast. He already had a vendetta and rivalry with me from previous boards, and then he had power so it seems I don't last long at all. I seem to be there 2007 and then not there 2008. I may have even totally forgot about my "gunB" run, I was thinking I refused to join Carnivora early on but I think I just got banned, lol. I think I went from my carnivora ban to focussing on "the rogan board", molosserdogs and boardogs.com at this time. I can see myself on them at the same time also, as Tonedog, Tonedog and "Bitey" respectively. I actually don't return to carnivora until 2010 as "Gunbullet". Not very sneaky, seems Taipan was feeling generous and gave me a pardon. I do notice before I joined Carnivora was steady around 170 members for years, and then soon after I join it jumps to 470-500. Now that could be my magnetic personality, or I was 1 of many exodusing from somewhere else, I can't recall. Late 2010 my name changes from Gunbullet to Gun, I think that's another banning and return. It's interesting to see all the names. So many good ones I forgot - Sam1, Cannidae, Tazman, Oldeasymoney, Amphicyon, kazanlak, Lu Sicialianu, Big Al, to name a few, some hilariously terrible ones I forgot about too- Xismxist was crazy bad, similar to felinepower, and Lozcat was Mondas before Mondas. A british version, but so similar. There are even dog fans I clashed with because they liked different dogs- Shah. SunnyAk who would go on to be my friend (I invited him here actually) but at that time we were arguing. And famous bandog breeders midgardkennels and Lee Robinson were even there. By november/december 2011 I seem to go missing again, lol. At that point there are 83 members posting per day, and 1300 members total. The board then seems to disappear in 2012, which must be when Taipan transitions to another site. Not even the latest one, but maybe the one before it. Maybe the Archive forum, IDK.

I remember big bons said that there is an account of a male captive polar bear which fought a male captive tiger. He said the bear won but died later not because of the injuries inflicted but due to overheating. Is this the account he was refering too? Or is there another account?
