I watched two movies recently which had bad reviews. One I thought was fine-
I don't like "comic book" movies in general, with a few exceptions (The Watchmen, Sin City, 300, Dredd (2012)), but honestly I don't see why people were SO mad about this one. It was more interesting than the average DC/Marvel movie IMO, with the whole ancient egyptian god angle, and he was pretty brutal and bad ass, and then the other justice guys were kind of interesting, the dude who would just grow huge. I don't know... I found it mildly entertaining, of course with a lot of the cheesey problems that afflict all these comic book movies.
The other bad review movie I watched-
I honestly thought it was awesome. The criticisms make no sense. They say its unoriginal because we've had the stepford wives... totally stupid, most movie concepts are not only unoriginal but boring as fuck, and they still remake them over and over again. Saying this has been done would be like saying "game of thrones? Oh come on, we've already seen lord of the rings". If a setting is good it SHOULD be made into lots of movies. Like I said we have a million movies that are "set in modern day new york" (or whatever) and no one says shit. That criticism is totally dumb IMO.
The other was people thought it was "woke propaganda". That is also totally not true, I mean maybe that was the intention? But it failed and actually was anti-woke propaganda IMO. I don't want to give too much away, but it is very nuanced and open to interpretation. You can definitely see it both ways. I honestly thought it was great. Harry Styles is a shitty actor, that's the only real criticism I have. Florence Pugh is an unbelievably great actor, again. Always. Chris Pine surprised me, better in this than I have seen him be before.
I also watched a movie that came out around the same time as the above movie, and people mostly thought it was "better"-
This movie was ABSOLUTE SHIT. Laughably bad. Just so dumb. The main actress is Kevin Bacon's daughter, and she was SOO unbelievably bad at acting I was laughing out loud. There was one point where she cartoonishly blurted out something she wanted to keep a secret and then covered her mouth like "oops" and it was so exaggerated and over-acted like an SNL sketch.
The whole idea was annoying, the main character clearly just seemed insane and even SHE should have concluded she was just insane and checked herself in to a mental hospital. Really week dumb crap, and if people really thought this was a better movie than "Don't Worry Darling", they are morons.
