As it stands grappling with your hands is ineffective when your opponent is stronger than you. For example gripping dogs against near-parity cougars and leopards. That video of the mongrel dog actually perfectly demonstrated this, it raised its hands on the ground and lost its stability and fell backwards. Meanwhile a gripping dog's robust limbs help with stability and their mouth can grapple down bigger animals than a big cat's arms can at parity. This is why a greyhound can kill a guanaco but a cougar of the same size has to use its forelimbs and that's something that stands a good chance of failing: It can also succeed mind you, but not face to face. It requires a very specific circumstance. A calculated ambush right onto the prey animal's weak point. Otherwise, the cat will likely fail whereas a dog or wolf can take down that animal face to face. So IMO jaw grappling > hand grappling, and when it comes to gripping dog vs cougar/leopard combat we're talking about a dog's mouth with enhanced gripping strength and fighting adaptations, robust forelimbs for increased stability along with a powerful neck and core. So the dog actually has more ''grappling tools'' than the cat does, and they're more effective.

I'll note that jaguars, lions and tigers have very strong forelimbs to support big game predation, sorely lacking in antelope and deer specialists that are cougars and leopards. Persian leopards are unique, and they begin to come close to jaguars. All of those 4 show what's needed to be an effective feline big game predator. That doesn't change the fact that a 30lb Pitbull can grapple a 2,000lb bull that would send a pride of lions to the shadow realm though. It's kind of amazing that dogs are on a similar tier of big game predation with these giant felines which are coming close to the strongest land carnivore and are definitely the best of the wild predators. I think a male lion is the 3rd strongest land carnivore, the only predators that beat it are much larger polar/kodiak bears. And 30-120lb gripping dogs are among these beasts in predation abilities.

I used to be a big believer in felid grappling with their hands and underrated canids a lot, until I witnessed grey wolves using their jaws to grapple bison and also gripping dogs. I think it’s very impressive that these dogs are comparable to some of the strongest land carnivores.

@pumacinonyx Supercat What do you think?I don't want to say this, it kind of hurts me to, but I'm afraid that I'll have to agree with you. I've actually considered some of the thing we discussed on Quora, and it turns out that mouth grappling is actually more effective than forelimb grappling. Like in all sincerity, I actually mean what I'm saying right now. But can a 30 lb pitbull actually grapple down a 2000 lb bull that would send a lion pride running for the shadow realm? That's sort of hard to soak in, please help me out.

Granted, a 30lb pitbull is pretty small. It'd be getting tossed around a bit probably, all part of the fun. Here's some pictures and a video of Pitbulls/EBTs/Alano Espanols catching bulls. streamable.com/l0ogp5I think that's actually some guy's pet EBT, the video was on youtube and they were saying the EBT saved him.

It is actually funny when a shitbull gets owned by a Horse. Well, in those videos those dogs were bull breed mixes, could have some A.P.B.Ts but they are probably not pure legit A.P.B.Ts. Considering the dog in the first video was some overweight bull breed and it didn’t seem too effected after getting up after getting kicked shows how tough it is, the second video states that the bully didn’t receive any major injuries even though it got kick pretty good and the dogs in the third video took multiple blows and kept going. You just proved how tough bull breeds are if anything

Well it's alive and the horse is not having fun. I got to love how the Horse was punting around the shitbull in the first video. It was funny cause the ugly mutt deserves it.

True, they also do it with their human children even though statistically they are quite likely to rape and murder women in the future ^sicko
