kevin We now know a male cougar can as an adult be 50 kg and also 100 kg. But would you say, "a 100 kg cougar and a 50 kg cougar are both adults, it's just that the 100 kg cougar is twice the size with similar experience"? Besides, if a 60 kg cougar killing a 300 kg bison "does not" mean a 100 kg cougar could kill a 500 kg bison, then how about a 200 kg tiger killing a 1000+ kg gaur or water buffalo, or a < 100 kg Cambodian leopard killing a > 500 kg banteng? Isn't that still a reasonable argument for the cougar?

You can for example take two boxers : One with a shoulder height of 190 cm and another with a shoulder height of 178 cm. They can indergo the same training program and have similar fighting experience and combat knowledge. We don't really know the difference in weight between the tigers and the gaur/water buffaloes or between the leopards and bantengs killed either. Not to mention that a 100 kg puma would be bulky to the point of being slower and less agile than a 60 kg puma

Not to mention that a 100 kg puma would be bulky to the point of being slower and less agile than a 60 kg puma Aaah, Kevin, I think it's time I showed you my 3 different answers on Quora: First answer: www.quora.com/Can-an-adult-Cougar-kill-a-full-grown-American-Bison/answer/The-SuperCat?ch=10&oid=408389857&share=6d456863&srid=hJo9JQ&target_type=answer It was a quite rough answer, and I made a number of mistakes I know. Some things were correct though like the "Tiger vs Gaur" stuff. Second answer: www.quora.com/Are-there-any-cases-of-cougars-attacking-American-bison/answer/The-SuperCat?ch=10&oid=1477743663569532&share=54d90dc4&srid=hJo9JQ&target_type=answerHere, I reference the books/pages where the 2 main accounts of cougars attacking bison were written originally. I also added one case of a cougar slamming an adult bison cow to the ground (it's a pretty short case). I dissected the 3 cases, debunked some misconceptions people might have towards them. Best of all, I quoted actual, legitimate cougar experts who are convinced that cougars are capable of killing bison. Third answer: www.quora.com/Can-a-mountain-lion-kill-an-adult-American-bison/answer/The-SuperCat?ch=10&oid=1477743666839665&share=d5b155ff&srid=hJo9JQ&target_type=answer Here, I VERY THOROUGHLY dissected a comment given to me by a Quora user called "Dino King." I posted LEGIONS of accounts of tigers killing gaurs. These accounts are also from the world's top tiger experts, Ullas Karanth, Sunquist, and John Seisensticker. Ullas Karanth's studies VERY CLEARLY showed that tigers VERY REGULARLY kill BULL gaurs FIVE (5) times their own mass. I also posted actual case studies of TIGRESSES killing BULL (NOT cow) gaurs. I posted a study by Susana Rostro-Garcia that showed that leopards ROUTINELY kill bantengs FIVE times their mass. The most important and by far the longest section is Section 12 where I THOROUGHLY debunked the "cougars coexist with bison, but don’t prey on them, so that means they cannot" argument which is propagated by only the most legendary of fools. It's very long, but until you read it, you CANNOT understand why cougars are capable of killing bison, and why they don’t, and why they are superior to wolves and bears in doing it.

Thanks but the link didn't even talk about Bison at all. They only brought some other ungulate species as part of the puma's diet :
