Gaur skull completely pales in comparison to Bison skull in terms of broadness. It's quite understandable as bison would have evolved thick skulls to resist violent head on collisions whereas gaur don't need such adaptation as they wrestle each other with their horns and typically don't go around ramming against each other.

Based on these equations, a 700 kg European bison bull would have a chest girth of 246.57 cm whereas a plains bison bull of equal weight would have a girth of 250.67 cm. Likewise, a wisent bull weighing 800 kg would have a girth of 254.40 cm whereas a Plains Bison bull of equal body mass would have a circumference of 265.49 cm. Overall, it can be argued that plains bison are pound for pound built stronger than their european counterparts !

The Plains Bison populations in Badlands and Theodore Roosevelt National Parks can easily rival an adult Gaur Bull in sheer Body weight :

Both would crush a gaur in a fight with hardly any effort. A cape buffalo is out of the question.
