I nearly stood on a baby stone curlew last night. That would have sucked. I saw the mother curlew with her baby and I was like shooing them out of the way so I could lock a gate and the mother was all threatening me and shit. I was like "alright alright, I'll give you space" and I turn to walk away and feel a bump on my shoe and I looked down and there was a second baby curlew. Like I was actually standing between the mother and her baby which is why she was shitty. Luckily it was just a little bump with the side of my shoe, if I just stepped on it and squashed it like a dog shit I would have felt so bad.

I don't know how the eagle can kill the dog in a tussle unless it manages to drag the dog off the edge of a cliff. Well penetrating daggers punched into the brain and through the neck vertebrae/throat at speed from a bomb dive does mongolian wolves in when targeted by tame golden eagles. Eagle claws have some legitimacy as instruments of death (unlike cat claws). At the same time we could well be underestimating the durability advantage a pitbull holds over a wolf. The skin, the muscle, the bone, is all thicker and stronger. I could see that if the eagle caught the dog unawares or the dog was acting like prey turning its back and trying to escape whereby the eagle could use the "high-ground" and targetted attacks as an advantage. But these matchups assume both animals are fronting up and having a fair fight. If the APBT faces off I just think the dog would be end up getting the better of it, too much durability compared to the eagle, bigger stronger gross maul, bigger stronger physiology... The wild flapping eagle presents some difficulty in grounding, but when the APBT is facing off the eagle will end up being brought down and finished if/when the eagle tries to press for the kill. When the eagle presses for the kill it has to leave itself vulnerable in a way the dog can take advantage of, and when the APBT gets a hold of a part of the eagle it'll never let the eagle go. Might take a while for the eagle to lose the will to escape, the eagle will be a bit of a wild ride for a while. But slowly and surely the eagle will slow down bit at a time. Then the APBT adjusts it's mouth working towards a killing bite. And the APBT has gas for days, I'm assuming way more than the eagle. For me it's first about APBT-jaws > eagle's beak, secondly about APBT durability > eagle durability, and thirdly about APBT robusticity/strength vs eagle strength. I'd go with clouded leopard over Harpy eagle too. Having said all this it's a very impressive eagle. Holy cow, HUGE eagle! And I thought our wedged-tails were impressive. |

I'm seeing this matchup as an even greater example of bulldog vs cat in the way that while the cat has the tools to kill the dog, it requires a more specific targetted attack more than the dog requires. The eagle is the same as the cat in this regard but even moreso.

I favour clouded leopard over harpy eagle as I consider the harpy eagle to require more targetted attack than the clouded leopard, the clouded leopard is more of a "fighter" than the eagle, even though less of a fighter than APBT.
