Well I shared that Briarwoods experiences on the jagd vs bobcat I posted. If a dog stays back and bays the cat has the best chances to do damage. A wolf isn’t a straight catchdog they are more likely to do some aggressive baying with hard snaps. Try that against a cat and of course a cat has the opportunity to do some serious damage. So a wolf actually isn’t the best suited to fighting cats imo. Not saying I’d favour a lynx against a wolf more often or not. But they definitely do have a chance to do some damage. I totally agree, a wolf is very very very badly suited to fighting a cat. Standing back and giving a cat space and time to breathe and calculate an assault is playing right into its hands. Being scared to be hurt is also playing right into their hands. And actually, there has been a case or two of a lynx bettering a wolf, I thought maybe even one where a wolf was killed by a Eurasian lynx? My memory of it is vague and I remember it causing a lot of fiery debate and controversy. Might have been something wrong with the wolf, can't remember. A sick wolf with mange vs large male lynx that supposedly died but actually wasn't seen nor heard from again but the stupid ass researchers said "hm, we have no evidence but ackshully the wolf died, after all we never saw it on our cameras again." Another kill on a pregnant wolf and a large male lynx happened as well.

I still obviously favour a wolf over a lynx, but that extreme caution, kind of like scenthounds, is just not a good mentality to have taking on something that threatens and scratches and launches explosive assaults, and its gonna have them at least "looking silly" in interactions with cats from time to time. Making cats look good. Gripping dogs make cats look bad, even when the cat wins. They grab "the bull by the horns" and push the pressure relentlessly and cats just hate it so much, it's so against how they operate. You can even tell by the way they fight each other. Brief spurts of fury with big rests in between staring at eachother and making noises. A gripping dog forces them into their worst nightmare, but wolves and scenthounds basically play by "feline martial arts rules", by standing back and respecting the scratch, this makes for brief "rounds" of interaction with breaks in between, and frankly the cat is better at this "sport".
