What is the longest and most intense sighthound chase you have seen? Doubt this is the longest on youtube, but its a pretty long chase. I've seen some pretty damn cool jack rabbit chases in the midwest but I think the footage was cut up and not sure if I'll be able to find it. I can't say it was as long as that, but was intense.

That was up there, I'm not sure if it was the same rhea the whole time though? Anyway, even the chases we saw without cuts were crazy. Some of the other best chases I've seen were rheas as well. I wonder what the hell was chasing rheas in the past to make them get so good? I see some decent ones on jackrabbit that get put up on the houndsman xp patreon, this was a recent one-

Ratites in general are good at being elusive prey. Their unidirectional breathing system gives them a lot of stamina and their gaits is really efficient so they use less energy per footstep than humans. Combine those things together and you got an endurance machine.
I don't think there is a single species that is any animals favorite prey.
Ostriches for instance are avoided by pretty much every predator, and if we take the wikipedia page at face value, there is only a single area where cheetah coalitions will regularly target them. It seems there only real weakness as a flighty prey item is the fact their eggs have to sit in one spot for a few months.
Some evolutionary developments are caused by sheer luck. For instance, there wasn't really any specific threat that caused humans to become so intelligent, it just turns out that being smart pays off so it gradually increased. Likewise, there is no reason for ratites not to be really annoying prey even if they don't have many threats that could catch them.
What's really crazy is that the ostrich-like ornithomimidas such as gallimimus may have been even more efficient runners since their tail helped with locomotion.

I wonder who's to blame for the decline in activity.

I wonder who's to blame for the decline in activity. Everyone on TFC got on board with a transition from here to Bestiary, so TFC died on everyone's own accord tbh. Was like some stone age people finding out about flying cars. Really just better all around.
