Red PandaThe red panda (Ailurus fulgens), also known as the lesser panda, is a small mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It has dense reddish-brown fur with a black belly and legs, white-lined ears, a mostly white muzzle and a ringed tail. Its head-to-body length is 51–63.5 cm (20.1–25.0 in) with a 28–48.5 cm (11.0–19.1 in) tail, and it weighs between 3.2 and 15 kg (7.1 and 33.1 lb). It is well adapted to climbing due to its flexible joints and curved semi-retractile claws. VS Common RaccoonThe raccoon (Procyon lotor), also spelled racoon, and sometimes called the common raccoon to distinguish it from other species, is a mammal native to North America. It is the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in), and a body weight of 5 to 26 kg (11 to 57 lb). Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur, which insulates it against cold weather. Three of the raccoon's most distinctive features are its extremely dexterous front paws, its facial mask, and its ringed tail, which are themes in the mythologies of the indigenous peoples of the Americas relating to the animal. The raccoon is noted for its intelligence, as studies show that it is able to remember the solution to tasks for at least three years. It is usually nocturnal and omnivorous, eating about 40% invertebrates, 33% plants, and 27% vertebrates. ---------- Thanks to @collywop for this matchup

I think raccoons are a bit scrappier.

I’d say the red panda has the edge due to its bamboo crushing jaws.

I often dump expired food at the edge of the woods to attract and feed raccoons and coyotes.

I often dump expired food at the edge of the woods to attract and feed raccoons and coyotes. I do this on my "porch" (not really a porch but something like it) but I never see them. I just know usually it's gone. Typically an egg from grandma's chickens or something like that. Nothing involving coyotes, just raccoons and opossums. Once I did it in Yoshi's pen to see if maybe he'd kill something for once in his life but it didn't lead to anything.

I figured at least something gets to eat the food rather than throwing it in the garbage. I’ve noticed coyote droppings near the food pile; is this their way of marking/claiming territory or establishing dominance?

The red panda’s paws look somewhat more robust and impressive as well IMO.

Seeing a possum in the wild is one of the most boring non-events someone could ever experience.

Seeing a possum in the wild is one of the most boring non-events someone could ever experience. Wow, that’s encouraging.
