Let's start from the point must have misunderstood my existence in the wrongest, childishly and futile way possible to believe that I hate an animal, blasphemy in the case of my ideology, blasphemy of the worst crime if you actually even knew anything about me and even my religion as a whole.
The difference between my way of viewing an animal and yours is abyssal, you like animals based probably on actual taste, taste of liking an animal. I used to be very much like that aswell, not as long as I'm into working dogs, now I like animals more based on their function. The more this function matches my mentality and hobbies in real life the more I like the animal at expense of another.
My favourite LGD is the working Kangal, big exception because there's something about Kangal built as a whole that fascinates me (such as those extremely tall but lanky ones with short body length, indicating an animal with immense and explosive stamina right at my eyes) DESPITE it being a LGD dog.
It's not the LGD dog that I don't like but the function, the function which doesn't really fit my lifestyle routine and therefore it's just a very bad match between the enthusiast and the animal. I look for game, I look for stamina, ripped and elite function. I'm an ex boxer of 2 yo of sparring experience, a gym guy that loves physical suffering , I'm currently into cutting season since 2 months (hard to follow it at the barracks as I refuse to go to mensas and cook my own shit) and I'm eating like nothing by following a very strict diet that made me literally forget about the actual taste of pizza, sushi and high calorie pasta recipes (carbonara, amatriciana, cacio e pepe) I ate daily. The amount of suffering and hunger, especially hunger is actually very high. Passed from eating 250-300 grams of pasta with a 160+ gr steak as second dish and a big ass sandwich to eat barely 50 gr of pasta with a bit of oil and spinach seasoned with lemon juice. What happened? This suffering and hunger increased my will to train actually even more, so I even added extra training circuits even off service during the night. So we can confirm that hunger increases gameness.
So now that you know long story short how I pass my free time in real life , what animal you think I'll feel way more attached to emotionally?
This
Or this
A bond almost.
So basically for me it's an easy choice- it's not that I hate LGDs, I respect them for the role that BETTER fits them, which lies literally in their name.
Livestock guardian dogs. This is their role, and they are perfect at it, they have all the materials to be what they are. Size for intimidation, coats for temperatures, attitude and confidence, courage, strength.
Some can perform very well in combat, especially at lower weights like the video you sent where all of those dogs were in the 110-160 lb range, but here comes the big point.
Why ?
If you want an animal to perform at its best in a cathegory, you have to pick up the best breeds for that purpose. In an imaginary scenario where I'm in an alternate world where to survive by money you have to become successful in a dog cathegory that it is assigned to you, if I ended up in a farm I would adopt, raise and breed Kangals, alabais, probably COs.
What if I actually instead of just defending wanted to react by eradicating the numbers of the predators that killed my livestock, therefore hunting them? If it were wolves and Coyotes I'd take American Staghounds, Irish wolfhounds or Borzois for that role.
Who knows I could even add the Italian Maremmano but they don't enchant me as much as Turkish Kangals.
What if I ended up in a squad mission for the eradication of invasive rodents, foxes, badgers and small cats? I'll go for small terrier breeds, Jagds, Jack Russels and Patterdales coming right as first.
What if I was into the boar hunting sector where I need powerful dogs able to immobilize the prey before I get to it? Easy - dogos , dogals, presa canarios and other boarhound types, maybe some crossed with some sighthounds occasionally.
What if I ended in the fighting cathegory? Same story, I'd choose powerful dogs bred for fighting , the elite ones : Tosas, game bred apbts, bully kuttas, historically would have been interested to see the Cordoba fighting dog, some historical bull & terrier crosses, bred to subdue bulls.
You want the best of the best. Hence why I'll always leave out LGDs, including Volkodavs, in that cathegory. They can perform well in dogfight (lower weights, emphasis on that), but I care about the best of the best, the elite of the elite. Their main function was never fighting, they're doing it now because Russians lack the short coated fighting dogs latin , germanic and mongoloid world has. So they took some LGDs and tried to make them do what other breeds do way better because they were clearly bred for that.
I know of Bulldozer very well, way better than most people who mention it to try to make a valid point that big sized LGDs are actually truly functional in dogfighting, but that's where you all people fall for the bait of the same idea of what Bulldozer or ANY 200+ lb "fighting" LGD is.
I look at Bulldozer
or other "fighting" alabais used for the same matter.
Because I actually saw a few videos of Volkodav fights and heavyweight alabais fighting each other, including a single video (probably the only one existing one on mail.ru) of the same bulldozer fighting, and they are exactly that. Fat, slow heavyweight giants doing sumo wrestlers things, they don't express me any speed, elegance, agility , stamina or actual real gameness to be fair. Maybe there's some true will to fight but speed, agility and stamina are completely extinct in them, sometimes it feels they're going to fall on each other due to their very goofy and slow movements, like two fatasses fighting each other. I've actually witnessed on mail.ru an alabai vs alabai fight where both were lean, tall and very fast LGDS.
Now, THAT fight was beautiful to see. And while I can't trace it back I have a lot of pictures of dogs of the same body condition doing the same
View AttachmentTHESE dogs are true dogfighters, because they use all their qualities : size, speed, agility, endurance, elegance. Not those fatass sumo wrestlers that are boring to watch.
Here's another well conditioned dog. Wait does the coat look familiar? Exactly he's the same Bulldozer, Christ what a downfall he had.

Also be careful, especially on your first line :
"your cute little 90lbs working dogo beating a fighting Volkodav who has over 50 matches. "
Your fat slow fighting LGD can have 50 matches in his fighting experience because he fights other too heavy slow LGD of his same kind, thing Bulldozer did too to become a champion.
If your volkodav instead fought at its first match this thing .
It would have not passed to its second fight, it would have passed to this.
Because this is what your Volkodavs and fighting huge LGDs fight all the time, other LGDS and other heavyweight giants. Of course there's going to be Volkodavs or LGDs as champions, because the opponents are JUST dogs of that breed. Let some argentinian hunters import some of their best trained hunting dogos or some elite lightweight fighting tosas from Japan, Volkodavs and Alabais would actually get , quickly, extinct in the russian dog fighting arenas. They would be replaces immediately, not after being defeated heavily and mercifully.
Pet dogos already destroy CAS, COS and Volkodavs in russian dog fights, a hunting experienced dogo is the overkill you don't want to see.
You larp and day dream all you want about your non scary slow dog I could probably outwalk, I have no issue in betting my whole money that a hunting game dogo would slaughter any large Volkodav or alabai you pit him against.
I don't suffer an abundance of confidence , I already see pet dogos doing this, but one primarily thing makes me believe this.
My cute little 100 lb dogo is already bred to fight, subjugate, take blows and not give up and occasionally even kill something that is much more dangerous than your fat slow 200 lb fighting dog, something that can actually grow even larger than that and still be extremely fast and that can charge you at 48.28 km/h .
And has got weapons by far light years deadlier than the other dog.
Got any idea of what I'm talking about?
This thing here.
Many times happens that dogos get ripped apart and in half by these monsters.
The dogo face picture I posted above is Akela, he died stabbed in the throat by a boar in Bosnia, the owner reported he kept lugging and attacking the boar despite its jugular vein being ripped out and kept going after it before collapsing due to the extreme bloodloss that eventually killed the dog .
Here more of him
I really don't want to imagine what would happen to any of your heavyweight LGD if they were used to hunt boars, i barely see a fat slow dog running after a boar that turns back, charges at full speed and the fat dog gets one shotted and falls back with all his heavy weight that was useless to him.
So that's not happening, unless you use a pet dogo that performs worse than me in bed (jokes aside).
Any dogo like Akela
Dominic
Or Nato de las Arrias
Will brutally defeat any Volkodav or alabai you pit them against, assuming they fight with the same aggressivity and gameness they show in pen fights with boars and captive cougars.
All of these dogos have accounted for themselves the subjugation of one or more boars much larger than themselves sometimes ending out very injuried but still victors, what can your slow LGD can do apart from losing?
Even in human fighting heavy weight is useless
when you have this against you.
Demonstrated here.
Technique (mouth grappling, agility, avoiding, dodging, speeding) >>>>> (slowness, additional weight that becomes counter productive)
I think a 140-160 lb dog has a good shot over a 100 lb leopard, but a 120-130 fighting LGD has a better shot .
From 120 to 140 lbs and above against LGDS it's all leopard assuming it's a male with the right aggressive mentality.
