The wolf chomps the hyena to death.

Curious to see everyone's thoughts? @packhunter lincoln @hardcastle At average weights the hyena will win, it’s larger and is too durable

I think the wolf would evade the hyena and deliver devastating bites. The wolf is not an African wild dog that can't do any damage with its bites.

Curious to see everyone's thoughts? @packhunter lincoln @hardcastle The hyena has more powerful jaws and can outlast the wolf in terms of durability, however the wolf can outmaneuver and harass the hyena. I think if the wolf fights smart and evades the hyena’s attacks it will gradually wear down the hyena enough to win.

The hyena wins lol.
Deadlier bite, more durable and has better experience with dealing with more dangerous predators.

The hyena wins lol. Deadlier bite, more durable and has better experience with dealing with more dangerous predators. Hyenas run towards awds with their mouth open and get beaten up. A wolf is not an awd, it's superior. It has very strong jaws and a giant skull. So the wolf's bites would break down the hyena. Hyenas are sluggish, their best skill is to drop the guts out of herbivores. There's a video of a hyena taking 9 maulings to finish off a jackal, wolves have killed bull breeds instantly with snaps. That jackal video is the only video there is of a hyena catching another carnivore and killing it. I don't see AWDs and jackals and leopards as any worse than bears, cougars and wolverines.

The hyena will have trouble laying tooth on the wolf, but if it does and gets a hold it will be much stronger and do a lot of damage. There is an avenue for the wolf to win but it needs to be extremely careful and strategic and take a long time using hit and run techniques. Possibly over days with multiple visits. Realistically the hyena would dominate an encounter and bully the wolf off a carcass pretty easily.

There is also a video of 2 Kangals failing to kill a Striped hyena, which shows how durable they are (and not to mention them surviving attacks from multiple lions) This is a certain win almost, the hyena holds almost every advantage and there's no reason to favour the wolf over it imo. I would also like to point out the fact that there are way too many dog match-ups here and a lack of diversity. You also can't compare a hyena running into multiple AWDs and getting nipped from every corner to running into one less agile predator like the wolf. And realistically the wolf won't "evade the hyena's attacks and counter them" like some street fighter type of shit

Multiple dogs can prolong things. A little pitbull folded a striped hyena: Also greyhounds kill brown hyenas in Africa: The latter 2 hyena species aren't as durable or sturdy as a spotted hyena and are overall poor combatants. Spotted hyenas are different but still suffer from ''giant inflexible torso syndrome''. They also nip things, they don't seem to do much damage. The wolf could crush the hyena's muzzle. The wolf would indeed evade the hyena's attacks. Then it'd chomp on the hyena's face and neck. Not sure what would happen if the hyena bit the wolf, but hyenas haven't demonstrated their ability to do damage quickly. The hyena could win but I find it hard to envision. A gray wolf would not stand for that bullshit. Look at how close the wild dog can get, it even nipped the hyena's leg and the hyena couldn't do anything about it. A wolf doesn't nip, it bites. Very hard at that. Being slightly less agile than a wild dog is neither here nor there because it's just a hyena. Same game being played by 2 similar enough players. Also yes, the forum is quite dog heavy because it originates from me, Hardcastle and Lincoln who are all dog people... that'll change soon. Just need some more wild animal guys.

Thought this was worth posting: Where were you? Hyenas are surprisingly fast in a straight line, but in lateral movement, acceleration and footwork they are poor.

The hyena is still a lot more durable than the wolf. It's larger and the wolf would struggle to cause detrimental damage to the hyena due to its thick neck. I also can't be bothered to debate about this since this match-up is so common.
