At similar sizes I favour the Asiatic, but at average sizes I favour the American.

There are reports of moon bears preying on adult buffalo. - Walker's Carnivores of the World
Killing buffalo at such a relatively small size (by bear standards) should be the golden ticket to having one of the best predation abilities among ursids, better than their American counterparts, but what I've found of these buffalo-killing abilities comes from short blurbs that don't go into a lot of detail at all. Even if you ignore that though, Asiatic black bears still seem to be bolder and more aggressive, which should give them an edge in a fight.

Asiatic black bear takes this, black bears aren't much better than pandas.

American black bears are less aggressive but on average heavier. Exceptionally large American black bears like the Queen Charlotte black bears and these from Pennsylvania (which weigh 500 to 600 pounds) definately take the cake.
