I've seen lots of border collies hunting in Australia. I actually haven't seen any used in north america. Some in argentina, though more often random collie-ish mongrels.

But North America here, we typically have Border Collies that are retrieving or tracking dogs. German Shepherds are mainly tracking dogs and hunters rarely ever use them as bird dogs on the other hand, other than waterfowl like geese. Rough Collies are considered “low drive” by people that own them but there are many cases of them hunting wild game. For example, theres a video of a lone Rough Collie killing a groundhog. Theres another incident where a Rough Collie packed up with a buddy to attack a deer. Border Collies here are mainly used on coyotes, to add on. Never boars though, people only want Bulldogs and Curs, and Scenthounds to hunt Wild Boar.

Oh now that you mention it I have seen border collies work as hunting dogs in north america, as decoy dogs for coyotes and as "blood trailing" deer hunting dogs and etc, I was thinking of hog hunting.
Australia, Argentina, New zealand and south africa use collies on hogs (or bushpigs, for south africa) as "bailers", kind of distracting the hog so you can shoot it or so your catch dog can get a hold of it. Some may then happen to be pretty rough and may even grab a hold every now and then.

The small Border Collies with more skittishness yet wanna be rough are the bay dogs. That biggest and most aggressive Border Collie took on the subjugation or catch dog role.
