Height: 22-25'’ Weight: 40-65lbs Country of Origin: Likely inhabited a vast range over North Africa, the Mediterranean and much of the middle east. Today has been reduced to pockets within the Canary Islands, Malta, Ibiza, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Family: Sighthound Type: Mediterranean Mediterranean sighthounds are likely the first family of dogs to appear on the scene besides the Spitz and Pariah dogs that came after wolves. Their most common purpose is to catch rabbits or hunt big game in packs. I haven’t seen them hunting much other than rabbits. They were great for ancient humans because they can consistently catch small game so you can never go hungry with such a dog. They likely looked after themselves due to being early dogs that were left to roam around. They are possibly connected to the basenji. vs

I'll place my money on the 3 dogs in a very long drawn out contest. I can't see the deer catching the dogs. Though it'll be an extremely tough undertaking. Hardcastle What do you reckon?

Healthy prime stag would likely be immune for a while, I believe the dogs would struggle to make in-roads towards incapacitating it. They are primal dogs in harmony with the environment, they'd naturally back off when it wasn't working, and put the project on the back burner in the same way a wolf would.

I'd say it depends on the population of red deer, as their sizes can vary pretty significantly depending on the region. A smaller red deer would probably be taken down in a long fight similarly to coyotes killing a large whitetail buck, but I think a bigger stag (like.. 136-200kg or more) would probably win.
A hoof stomp could also do severe damage if it lands
The 3 dogs can still win if they're quick on their feet and have good coordination. I haven't really seen videos of these dogs, but they seem pretty slender and could probably evade hoof stomps and antler stabs for a while. Regardless of the winner, this will be a long, drawn-out fight.
For the dogs to comfortably win, you'd need 4-5 IMO.
