Kinda hard to say actually. I previously used to believe that leopards could kill silverback gorillas in head on fights, but I'm not so sure of that anymore. I'm also not sure of the reverse. More research still needs to be done on the relationship between Silverback Gorillas and leopards, whether leopards can only kill them through ambush (even though I personally do not subscribe to the idea that "ambush is proof of cowardice and is deployed solely because its user is 100% sure of its face-to-face fighting incompetence") or can defeat them in legitimate battles. Oh how much easier it would have been if we definitively knew that leopards could kill all gorillas (whether silverback or otherwise) in face-to-face fights! I would just have done ABC scaling: Jaguaress > Leopard > Gorilla (including Eastern lowland gorilla). But sadly, it's not that simple. Since it’s not specified, I believe the gorilla in question is a male (well for the gorilla's sake, it had better be). Male Eastern lowland gorillas average 175.2 kg (though another investigation showed that males average 163 kg) Page 196: books.google.com/books/about/Gorilla_Biology.html?id=d8d36DamYYICFemale Pantanal jaguars average 77.7 kg: www.zobodat.at/pdf/Zeitschrift-Saeugetierkunde_43_0296-0301.pdfLooking at it, the male gorilla is more than twice the size of the jaguaress regardless of whichever size you choose for the male. So the question is if a jaguaress can overcome a great ape twice her size. Hard to say honestly. I would however favour a jaguaress over a female Eastern lowland gorilla that averages 71 kg (smaller than the jaguar). If the gorilla was smaller than the jaguar, then I think it'd surely lose. As for the male gorilla, the gorilla might win. I'm saying that reluctantly.

I try to avoid male X vs female Y because it's bullshit and it should be 2 men fighting. A bit insulting to the silverback too because this is a mismatch and it absolutely clobbers.
