It was about 20 years ago, I had just finished hiking Mt.Burgess up in Yoho National Park. My Mustang was parked at the trailhead next to a large swampy bog. On the other side of the bog was the Trans-Canada Highway.
I noticed on the highway a large animal jam. That is what we call a situation when tourists spot wildlife on the road. They will all stop their vehicles and buses to take photos and will cause a traffic jam. A bus full of oriental tourists had stopped along with about a dozen cars. Everybody was waving at me across the bog. So I waved back, why not?
I continued to put my backpack and hiking poles into the back of my car, and this time the tourists were not only waving but jumping up and down while waving their arms in the air. What the hell was wrong with these losers anyway? Then I saw what everyone was all excited about.
There in the bog coming right at me was a gigantic cinnamon colored grizzly bear, and this small tank must have been at least 600 pounds! It had a huge hump on it's back and claws that were so long I still to this day get shivers down my back when I think on it.
I jumped into my car and put the gas pedal down with only 10 seconds to spare! My knees were shaking and I was fucking terrified! Five minutes later I pull into the rangers office to make a bear sighting report and she said, "Oh that would be bear #32, he's been hanging around here as of late, he's a big one isn't he?".

Being new I put this in the wrong section. Would a staff member please move this to the "The Great Outdoors" section where it belongs?

Are you sure he was a grizzly bear? I didn't know they could come in cinnamon morphs...

I believe they can? I'm not an authority on bears though.

Are you sure he was a grizzly bear? I didn't know they could come in cinnamon morphs... Go to Wikipedia and look it up. They have a great picture of one.
