I think Indian wolves are actually very cool, it's possible they are the fastest sub-species of grey wolf, as they have adapted to hunt mostly blackbuck antelope (one of the fastest antelope) and hares (very fast challenging prey who drive the evolution of fast predators). I think this evolutionary embarkation (yes that is a real word, stupidly) down a speedy path is evident in their appearance- But it's also evident in them being fairly small and lithe. They are light for their height EVEN for wolves, who are ofcourse insanely light for their height already. 55 lbs at 28 inches is about 10 lbs lighter than most other wolf sub-species at that height, and possibly around 35-40 lbs lighter than herders can be at that height, which is crazy. Like comparing a 6 ft 200 lbs man to a 6ft 120 lbs man. I'm frequently shocked by how light wolves are, and Indian wolves surely take the cake. Note even a greyhound is 15 lbs heavier at equal height. A a saluki is 10 lbs heavier. Crazy. Salukis are barely there. The fact GSDs can be 40 lbs heavier is surely just too much. Or are we going for parity? A small female GSD could weigh as little. She'd just be giving up 6 inches in height, but they'd at least weigh the same. In that scenario I think the Indian wolf would win, but at average and certainly at max it's very hard to picture.
