I know they imported Dogos to Africa for catching leopards, but I only have 1 picture of 2 Dogos and 1 coonhound with a leopard kill. Anyone else got any photos? Preferably photos where guns weren't involved. Here's the picture I've got where a guy bagged a leopard with 2 dogos and a knife: It doesn't have to be a Dogo, just a catch dog of some sort.

I seem to recall two different "hunting safari" businesses in africa were offering leopard hunts with dogos. That one you have a pic for is these guys (which you obviously know about)- Theunis Botha Big Game Hounds And then there's these guys - Adroda SafarisThey mention having dogos in their leopard packs but don't have any pics (I really feel like they used to, as well as testimonials about dogos from people who went on hunts, but whatever). I get the impression from both that the dogos are kind of just "back up" for the bluetick coonhounds, it's not really the same style of hunting that dogos were developed to do with pumas, unfortunately. It's like if the leopard decides to try and fight the blueticks and not tree, the dogos are there to make sure they tree. Then the tourist/customer can shoot the leopard and the blueticks don't get injured. I have zero doubt whatsoever people used to, and almost assuredly still do, hunt leopards with mongrel catch dogs in africa in the traditional style. I've heard about it in crumbs over the years. Certainly in colonial times, but yeah may be increasingly rare now and those doing it are probably total back country hicks that don't mess around on the net. You know, there are aussie pig doggers online but ALL the ones I know personally couldn't even wrap their head around doing this shit, they would think it is gay. The world of rugged grunting hillbilly hicks is extremely under-represented on the internet, and I imagine this is probably especially true in africa. In Africa it seems you have the scenthound guys and the sighthound guys, and that's about it, but bulls trickle into both worlds. With scenthound guys it's as backup like I said, with sighthound guys it's more about crossing bull into their greyhounds. The problem with that is they keep their dogs SO fast that the bull percentage is usually pretty low and then these guys will sometimes say "oh no you can't hunt leopards" because realistically they just have greyhounds. Everything in africa is really fast, so they kind of need their dogs to be very close to straight greyhounds and then the downside of that is they are limited somewhat combatively. Of course we know greyhounds are more badass than people think but still are kind of limited, like a leopard is a little much, and that is a sentiment greyhound guys in africa will typically echo. The dogs we have in australia are way burlier and tougher and honestly I believe would be nice for leopards, but they are too slow for most of the game in africa. These guys want a dog that can catch all sorts of antelopes and bushbucks and ostriches and jackals and caracals and shit and all that stuff is just too slick and quick for a burly pig dog. Even warthogs are largely too fast, except maybe the odd really big male. It's interesting though that the greyhound guys say without any hesitation that brown hyenas are no drama whatsoever for greyhounds. They are very cautious and careful and big up the danger posed by lots of animals but brown hyenas they're like "yeah no big whoop" and the greyhounds actually dust them pretty handily. Probably in twos and 3s most of the time admittedly but I just know these guys are so conservative and cautious and I can tell the brown hyenas aren't NEARLY as dangerous as the carnivora forum was trying to make out during my last stay there. Brown and striped hyenas are WAY overrated on carnivora. The guy I used to talk to (username was just "Africa", but he now lived in Australia - basically all the boergreyhound pics come from this guy) actually said he had a kelpie x terrier that weighed 25 lbs who would regularly kill 30 lbs aardwolves 1 on 1. Again he did not inflate dogs, he actually inflated wild animals big time but still he said this and also said his greyhounds destroyed brown hyenas no problem. When pressed. Like he didn't want to brag and wanted to uphold the dignity of wild animals but you could interrogate him and get the truth.
