None taken, I totally understand your logic. How old are you though? I can almost guarantee you will gradually become more and more disillusioned with the experts the deeper you dive into this stuff over time. The reality is the actual serious experts don't analyse animals in this specific way that we do. They dismissively throw stuff around about performance because they don't anticipate anyone will be taking it as seriously as we do. There's no legitimate academic scientific field that focusses specifically on what we do. We are, for lack of a better term, the experts. We are the authorities. I would have to compose myself and take deep breaths to stop laughing before I could begin a debate with a palaeontologist expert focussed on prehistoric sharks, before I soundly thrashed the fuck out of him in a debate. The animal 1 vs 1 debates nurture a deeper analysis into practical performance than scientists are even geared towards beginning to try to analyse. So they just toss stuff around not understanding the gravity it holds in relation to what we do. They do it all the time with everything.

I can look up a thousand websites but I don't trust ANY of them when it comes to (for example) the size of different animals. I need my old friend Cojimar, who truly looked into it with insane autistic obsession and actually knows the real maximum sizes of every animal on the planet in actual reality, and it never was what the "experts" said. They just toss shit around because they don't respect the general public at all and it's not important to them. We are obsessed dorks, and that's what it takes. I don't "bow down" to any expert on animals. Sorry.

You can argue that animal 1v1 debates are useful in certain cases, but don’t blame people that specialise in other professions.

Even if the sizes aren’t necessarily the most accurate, they’re still the statistics that must be used when debating - since there are no other estimates to go off of.

She's what they call a "classicist". It's basically an analyst of history based on the real actual data. Separately, there are "historians". Mary Beard doesn't give a single fuck what "Historians" say. Watch her shows and she says "here's this stuff, the historians think it means this, but I think it means...blah blah blah". The expert historians aren't shit compared to Mary Beard. The historians just know the official lazy story packaged for the masses, it's total bullshit. Mary Beard is like Sherlock Holmes passionately deeply investigating the nitty gritty. And the historians know it, really, that's not their bag. They would never dream of confronting and challenging someone like Mary Beard because she is analysing things at a totally different in-depth level. We don't have the clout of Mary Beard, BUT it's basically the same thing in that our focus and interest is at a depth they just don't even consider digging towards at any university. They would wave the white flag and say "well fuck, we didn't think it was that important, relax you nerds".

You can keep looking up to the experts if you want, but eventually you'll begin to separate the data from the experts. One day you will understand their "interpretation" of the data is no better than yours, and is probably worse than yours. If they cared as much as you they'd be here (or somewhere similar).

I think they don’t want to argue with Mary because it’s a waste of their time and she’ll just make up shit.

She’s just mad because she doesn’t meet the requirements to become useful and needed.

Also when I’m 39 I’ll probably have a good family and a well-paying job - I think I should be done with animal debates by then - and will hopefully contribute to the world in a good way.

I consider myself a classicist. In truth the classification doesn't exist, but what classicists are to ancient history, I am to natural history and animals. You are also embarking down this path, without knowing. And it's a superior thing to all the qualified experts. It's proper analysis in a way they aren't even thinking about.
