Africa’s largest freshwater fish vs Australia’s largest freshwater fish. Interesting how they’re both named after rivers.

Fun fact, the Murray cod is not a cod and the Nile perch is not a perch.

The Nile perch, by quite a lot actually.

One of the largest freshwater fishes, it reaches a maximum length of nearly 2 m (6 ft 7 in), weighing up to 200 kg (440 lb).

Murray cod are capable of growing well over 1 m (3.3 ft) in length and the largest on record was over 1.8 m (5.9 ft) and about 113 kg (249 lb) in weight.

When I was around 19 I was in an outback pub where they had a black and white photo on the wall of a bunch of old timey guys sitting on a murray cod that was the size of a van. There's no way it weighed less than 500 lbs. Since then I've tried to find that photo and look up murray cod size and it's like that pic doesn't exist outside of that pub. Lol. I know this sounds dumb but it's true.

I don't know... fish strike me as animals that can only bite off fins and can't fight otherwise. Which means every marginally similar sized fish fight has to be fin chomping and agility.
