The breed descends from a common type of shepherd dog found throughout Western Europe that includes such modern breeds as the Bouvier des Ardennes, Dutch Shepherd and German Shepherd. A common sight in the service of Belgian shepherds for centuries, it was not until the end of the 19th century that a breed club was formed and attempts were made to standardise the breed. In addition to its historical role as a herding dog, Belgian Shepherds have been used as assistance dogs, companion dogs, detection dogs, guard dogs, guide dogs, police dogs, and search and rescue dogs. The breed has a long history of being used by military forces, serving in both World Wars; they continue to be used by a number of militaries in a variety of roles to this day. The cougar is an ambush predator that pursues a wide variety of prey. Primary food sources are ungulates, particularly deer, but it also hunts smaller prey such as rodents. It prefers habitats with dense underbrush and rocky areas for stalking, but also lives in open areas. Cougars are territorial and live at low population densities. Individual home ranges depend on terrain, vegetation and abundance of prey. While large, it is not always the apex predator in its range, yielding prey it has killed to American black bears, grizzly bears and packs of wolves. It is reclusive and mostly avoids people. Fatal attacks on humans are rare, but increased in North America as more people entered cougar habitat and built farms.

I'd bet on the pair of Belgian Malinois against a 120lb cougar, 130lb cougar on an excellent day. Anywhere north of that I'd go cougar. 125lbs v 2 BMs I wouldn't place my money on the table. I'd just watch.

I favour the 2 Belgian Malionois vs an average Cougar.
But probably not a larger male.

I don't understand why but nothing I've ever seen from continental herders (Malinois, German shepherd, briard, tervuren, etc etc) gave me any confidence in their ability to deal with wild animals, or handle themselves in dog fights for that matter. Which is strange considering how well they can mess dudes up (which is actually no mean feat) with great courage and commitment and even while taking damage. The best thing I can say wild-animal-wise is I heard about a farm german shepherd that would sneak up on black backed jackals and kill them. But that's really nothing. I've seen them lose to every dog under the sun, and have even seen them look anxious around pumas in some random videos. I think the cougar wins for sure.

I trust the pitbull and dane and etc. ancestry. Perhaps a mistake, dunno.

Yeah I guess if any could do well it's the mal and IF it really has those infusions. Many people deny that BTW.
