The Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) is an endangered subspecies of tiger found in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and southwestern China. Tigers weigh 400-570lbs with an average of 420lbs. Tigresses weigh 220-400lbs with an average of 300lbs. Bengal tigers are 36-44'' in height and 8-10ft long. They predate upon gaur, boar, deer etc. along with rival predators. The African Lion (Panthera leo) is a vulnerable and declining big cat that lives in Africa. Lions average 420lbs while lionesses average 280lbs. Lions are 36-44'' in height while lionesses are 34-40'' in height. Lions are around 6.4ft long as with lionesses. Lions are the only big cat that forms prides. African lion prides consist of females and 1 or more males that defend the territory. Lionesses do most of the hunting and hunt buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, kudu etc. along with rival predators. Lions may also partake in hunts. Lions go through harsh natural selection, males fight to take over a pride. They go for the spine and neck when fighting. When lions mature into adulthood they are exiled from the pride and live nomadically. They may form coalitions when exiled from the pride they were born, and these coalitions can compose of up to 5 members which can reign over a larger territory than lone lions. They will work together to take over a pride.

I place my money on the lion, given it's not giving up too much weight. At parity lion wins more often than not IMO, but tigers may get a bit bigger which evens things out and could even allow the tiger to be favored. However I still think a veteran African lion could take that.

I think it is 50/50 with my vote going to the bigger tiger. There are quite a few tiger subspecies, therefore, the African lion will be larger than most. The Bengal and Amur tiger are both heavier than the African lion.

/\ Actually posters keep saying that they are heavier than the Amur tiger on average. I haven’t been keeping tabs on the weights.
Amur tigers according to Siberian Tiger Project average 406 pounds.

Yeah that seems more accurate, seen some other sources say similar too. russia.wcs.org/en-us/Wildlife/Amur-Tigers/Amur-Tiger-Ecology.aspx#Lions are ever so slightly heavier on average.

However, Amur tigers are scientifically known as the largest of the extant big cats overall on many sites. Do you think that poaching reduce their weight? Peter believes the Amur tiger is the most capable of reaching these ‘monster’ sizes if not mistaken.

Yes, poaching appears to be a factor considering cold animals are bigger than their warmer counterparts yet it doesn't apply to Bengal vs Amur somehow.

This is a cat fight. The Bengal tiger stands a slightly better chance of a win simply because he will more often have the advantage of size/weight. However, there are other advantages to be considered such as heart, fighting experience, age, health, etc. This fight is really about the individual big cats rather than species. I would vote draw (50/50) if we were given that option. So, I didn't vote.
