The Florida Panther (Puma concolor coryi) is a feline found in the peninsula of Florida. It can only be found in Florida, but historically could be found throughout the southeast United States. Males average 120lbs but large individuals can reach up to 160lbs. Females average 90lbs. Florida Panthers are 24-28'' tall and 6-7ft long. They predate upon deer, feral hogs and various other animals, being an opportunistic predator. The Florida Panther has no predators, however their kittens may be in danger from predators such as alligators and bobcats. The future of the Florida PantherThe Florida Panther is critically endangered, with only 120-130 individuals remaining. Conservation efforts have been unsuccessful, due to denial of reintroduction and protection of the Florida Panther's habitat: rewilding.org/defending-the-easts-last-big-cat-population/Some of these Florida Panthers get into direct conflict with farmers, which can result in the Florida Panther being shot. Due to their small range, male Florida Panthers commonly kill each other, this is their 2nd most common cause of death after vehicle collisions. It's likely the Florida Panther continues surviving in its current range, being unable to expand to other areas due to ignorant decisions by people who are supposed to be protecting wildlife instead of encouraging its destruction.

Help Save The Florida Panther (I guess this really only applies to Bolushi, lol. Seeing that he's the only Floridian on the board IIRC): Taken From: If You See A Panther (Pages 31-34)

How the introduction of Texan cougars helped save the Florida Panther. In 1995, there were only about 20-25 Florida panthers left in the state. The survival of this population was threatened, and their genetic diversity plummeted. Biologists wanted to do something about this, and as a result, eight (8) female cougars were brought in from Texas to interbreed with the Floridian population. It has been for the better. Research has shown that cougars that are descended from Floridian and Texan parents have a much higher survival rate (53%) compared to those that are fully from Floridian residents (21%). The ''hybrid'' cougars also have a lower rate of heart defect (8%) than full Florida panthers (16%). In the end, bringing in cougars from Texas was a most wise decision.
