What do you guys think about the ethics of trapping? I'm thinking about having my grandma put a trap in the yard. She has an older one. If she does I'll record a video and piss the animal off a bit. Then we'll release it probably.

It depends on the animal being trapped. I definately would not like to see a bear, wolf, eagle, nor cougar etc being trapped and suffering.
Regarding trapping animals for food, as long as they do not have to suffer long and are not the animals I have listed earlier on.
I have no problem with trapping pesky animals though.

I don't like trapping generally, but I did once set a leg snare for a scrub turkey so I could relocate it because it was smashing my garden when I was between dogs. That was fun. Didn't get hurt or anything just got it's leg snatched and was then bouncing upside down from a branch and I put it in a sack and drove it a suburb over.
I would set big cage traps if I could, where animals walk in to eat something and the door slams behind them. I'd love to live capture deer and hogs and roos and put them at my favourite dog walking place. It's perfect habitat but just doesn't have any of those animals for some reason. Deer and roos are just over the other side of the river but for whatever reason haven't crossed over to this particular patch of about 400 acres where I can safely have my dogs running free.

If there are crocodiles in that river that’s probably why they haven’t crossed. If not then idk.

There isn't, there ARE bullsharks, but they cross the river all the time back and forth between some places nearby. Somehow just this particular pocket isn't populated by deer or roos at the present time. There are some hares (though they're weirdly low density) and foxes, and lots and lots of quails, and some bandicoots. But no wallabies, roos or deer (or hogs, but hogs are kind of expected to be absent or very rare in this area). It's a little odd because it has loads of fresh water and grass and cover and everything they like and also is very rarely disturbed by anyone except me (and I only found this spot recently).

Perhaps the current there is unusually strong or deep?

No. Actually at low tide in one spot I have hopped over some rocks and crossed the river there on foot. I know the area where I crossed to has deer and wallabies as I have seen their tracks and droppings there many times. It is really odd. The place I'm talking about was a farm until 2018. It's possible the farmer blasted the shit out of everything for decades and they instinctively remember. That's all I can think of.
