Drawing of a mammoth with a target where its heart is, my idea is that this was to teach others how to kill the mammoth. I don't think they'd be drawing the same heart symbol. It's likely blood or what I believe is a target. I also don't think they'd be drawing that for the sake of it, I think there was a practical reason for it. I think the other cave paintings may have been used to teach kids what animals exist. And then they'd explain how they behave. Perhaps go out and watch them, learning...

I actually really like the logic you are using here. It makes a lot of sense. I know in aboriginal culture the cave paintings aren't just paintings for their own sake, they always were supposed to accompany a story, usually one told in song and with accompanying dances, and they'd do it over and over again and it would be teaching something. The over-abundance of animals in cave paintings would likely be used to teach people about hunting. I saw a video on youtube once where someone was asking a hunter gatherer tribe, the Hadza of Africa, all these philosophical questions and what struck me was how they were so obsessed with hunting and animals they couldn't even really contemplate what he was talking about or why. They were just totally focussed on food, on animals and killing them, 100% of the time, and nothing else. And that is kind of what is required to actually succeed as a hunter gatherer. You can't even think about other things. So your reasoning makes sense.

Video I was talking about-
Think of the mentality these guys have, and yeah any kind of art is bound to be practical and hunting related.

I don’t know what this is… it looks like some type of bear and a cat. Maybe it’s a Cave bear and Cave lion, but I’m not sure. It could be some sort of hyena. What do the bear experts think? (I can’t tag new members once again) Attachments:

Where is the location? My first instinct would be hyena, but it does also look like a bear. That would be amazing if it turned out shortfaced bears were spotted. It was extra cursorial and predatory, so who knows, it may have evolved stealth coloration.
Just noticed you are a carnivore Ling, congrats!

Do you know anything about it? Where it is and when it is supposedly from?
It doesn't look authentically ancient tbh. Definitely not pre-historic anyway, that type of dog didn't exist yet and also the art is a little too good. I guess it COULD be a few thousand years old, but I don't sense it is even that.

I think it’s too colorful, especially with the blue butterfly below.
