The dog has been gnawing on his tail for months, and now it's getting worse. And I only now researched it because he was doing it excessively. My personal diagnosis is fleas. Could also be dry skin from low humidity. He also sometimes scratches on his face with his paws, any bad causes for that? He also still has raw paw despite continued treatment using that thing Antonio recommended. So that's great. Does it take months to get better? Or? Are we doing something wrong? Have been spraying his paw w/ a spray bottle. Ugh... he's very due for a vet checkup. The full 9yrds.

Sorry, saw your message to respond to this but didn't see the thread and wasn't sure where it was... been unusually busy and distracted. I only checked "your pets" looking for winnie pics. I feel like this wasn't showing up in new posts? Dunno... Anyway, No, it shouldn't take months to fix. It's not working for one reason or another. You could try hydrogen peroxide (which is pretty cheap) or even salty water, otherwise ... it sucks, but vet may be the last resort. Fleas aren't hard to find. Roll him on his back and probe through his belly fur like a chimpanzee. You should actually see them. At least see one scurry out of sight, then you'll know he has lots. 1 = lots. If not you should at least see their shit. The tail chewing may be fleas, or an extension of the raw paw, or something else entirely. Flea treatment works pretty good these days, just a drop on the back and keeps them flea free for a long time (possibly even forever, I don't have to get flea stuff anymore because a few years of doing it lead to all the fleas on my property disappearing), but is not always super cheap. Unfortunately. Being a kid with no money is really not helping your situation.

Not too long ago Ben got a tick, I just took tweezers and pulled it out, he just stood still and let me do it. He probably didn’t have it long because it wasn’t very big

Not so shocking because he hasn't had a bath in likely multiple years (he's getting one soon, a much needed one), hasn't been groomed and he lays on my bed with a fan blowing on him for hours, sounds like stuff that would cause such things. Edit: And yeast infections, considering he constantly paws at his ear and it's also likely the cause for his paw. He shows the symptoms.
