I believe they aren't, or at the very least they aren't specialists on it, their huge size, while greatly increasing their power comes at the cost of a heavy reduction in stealth. With Lions it's even more obvious than they aren't ambush Predators than with Tigers, as the Savannah has barely any trees and very few large bushes to ambush from.

They're clearly ambush predators, though I would say it is true that with lions and tigers and even jaguars you get more cases where they are less "strict" and fussy with the quality of their ambush than leopards and pumas.
