Height: 20-26" Weight: 60-130lbs Country of Origin: Canary Islands Family: Gripping Dog Type: Bulldog The Presa Canario is a bulldog from the Canary Islands. Originally used as a farm dog to wrangle/catch bulls and unruly cows, and were also commonly fought against each other. They nearly went extinct but a few breeders put them back on the map and today their main work is catching hogs and personal protection, with some gimmick work (e.g. raccoon hunting) on the side. In the past they were 50-80lbs but today they're more commonly 100-130lbs, with some throwback specimens in the 60-90lb range here and there. They handle the weight fairly well, but begin to deteriorate pretty badly past 130lbs. The more modern larger Presas are efficient hog dogs due to their size, they're good at anchoring down hogs and draining the fight out of them quickly due to their weight. An ideal Presa has a very high pain threshold, some of the highest the dog world has to offer, and never lets go of its hold. Instead of darting around looking for good hold, they will walk straight into the target, ducking and weaving their way to getting a hold. Some images:
