They don't seem particularly deadly at all besides a few select animals. I've never seen a cat gut another carnivore. @hardcastle what do you think?

I’m no cat fan, but didn’t a leopard fatally injure a gorilla by kicking it?

I’m no cat fan, but didn’t a leopard fatally injure a gorilla by kicking it? Hi. Yeah, cat claws are extremely deadly. They are deadly enough to rip into the internal organs of a target as seen in this article where a large cougar did so to a medium-sized American black bear: markgelbart.wordpress.com/2014/08/01/astonishing-cougar-attacks-on-bison-bears-and-humans/They are way more deadly than what many people are willing to believe. Imagine having daggers built into your fingers, except that they are curved.

''OCEA KILLS DOG IN SOUTH WHITE RIVER ....
Information arriving in the group of the Express newspaper shows that a jaguar killed this little animal in the community of jgua Branca, interior of Rio Branco do Sul.
They're talking in jaguar, but it's most likely that it's a jaguatirica that has many in the region. Smaller feline, but which for some reason has left its natural habitat and seen more frequently in urban areas.''

Yes, as far as I've seen cat claws work on a select few animals. 1. herbivores and primates occasionally 2. pet dogs that don't move out of the ''line of fire'', works even better when said pet dogs have thin underbellies vulnerable to raking (AKA boxers) Not only are cougar claws not very effective against Dogos, but the Dogo is conscious of being scratched. So it intentionally moves out of the way of the claws to minimize that risk. Cougar claws don't do anything to Dogos really. Some gnarly scratches but nothing serious. This is what the aftermath of a cougar hunt would usually look like: Not even vet worthy.

FTR, most hunts wouldn't leave a dogo in that state. That would be an unusually nasty individual cougar that did a good job of defending itself (from the botom, while being dominated, because if it actually won the dog would be dead). Most don't. Hunting cougars is distinctly less hazardous than hunting boars, according to all testimony. Less injuries and far less deaths.

Depends a lot on the Cat, the fact Cheetah has such decent claws for it's size tells a lot that it shouldn't be underestimated as a "tall thin boy that can't fight"

The even more powerful claws of Bears come at the cost of not being retractible.

I wouldn't say the cougar kicked its guts out, just scraped its underside.
