I honestly think 10 or more wolves.
I feel like the wolfaboos will get triggered by that number.

I dunno, infinite? They would all be scattering, in such a horrific scenario for the primitively social animal that is the wolf I believe it would be disastrous and the big cat would kill many many wolves before actually dying. Wolves clear an area when tigers are around. I believe this is because a pack of wolves has zero chance.

Its rare to ever happen with any canid.

Well... the set number of boarhounds (in the past called alaunts, seizers or bandogges, some called "bloodhounds" in the 1800s, and wolfhounds are basically the same) for a lion/tiger seems to be 4. linkHe is saying 4 is the optimal number to make a sporting contest or "try masteryes", but also can utterly overmatch a lion as well. 4 was also the number used by circuses to subdue performing big cats that go crazy, here a tiger- linkEven in the lion baits where they used 35-40 lbs bulldogs, they at no point had more than 3 at a time, and as dogs got injured they would not be replaced, the 2 to single dog/s remaining took it to the end. 3 at a time against the "tame" Nero- And the savage badass lion which decimated the dogs, Wallace, only fought 2 at a time- linkWith wolf-sized boarhound-types it seems 4 is the correct number. So yeah.... Probably 800 to 1000 wolves would be required.
