A great dog who is sadly deceased but had plenty of experiences under her belt as a hunting & farm dog. She also served as my companion whenever I was out and about and loved to observe whenever I'd collect data for reptiles & amphibians. Working her was neat because she acted exactly how I predicted dogs of her type would when out in the field.

Also R.I.P, I have a lot of respect for the Spitz types like that who are really helpful for everyday work.

The coyote is not in a trap, that's just dirt that he kicked up. I actually liked that coyote, he would follow me around and gobble up any ground squirrels that Kimchi would kill. As for the snake, it's a mountain kingsnake.

She really did, and that gave me peace. That dog was a sick and practically a feral pup when I got her, with no socialization skills. I had to marker train her to simply look at me and allow me to touch her. A lot of work but it all paid off because we had an incredible bond. No one could bribe her away and I never had to worry about people trying to steal her when out on the farm/field. It's probably the naturalist in me but I loved her independence; she was a window into the past of a time where the proto dogs were off entertaining themselves but would work with their people when the time was required.

Yep. She looks the perfect representative of the natural wild animal that the domestic dog evolved to be. We didn't make those ones, they evolved to better co-exist with stone age man after he migrated into Eurasia.

I'd possibly add karelians and some laikas to that as well. I've met them all and find the korean jindo and the japanese kishu ken to be my favorite of the group. Personally, I prefer dogs with more grit, which is what the mentioned breeds posess. I would be lying if I didn't admit that I think the korean and japanese spitz breeds have the more aesthetically pleasing faces to me either (thick ear leather that points forward, sharp eyes, prominent backskull/sagital crest and fuller cheeks).

I do feel like I have noticed the jindo and shiba and obviously the akita and etc are indeed grittier and rougher than most spitz. I'd say they've all got a history of fighting here and there and being expected to maybe hunt things that are bigger or more dangerous than they should. They are the spitz base but with expectations to be tough placed on them for at least hundreds, maybe thousands, of years. And yes, look kind of cool as well.
Your dog could really pass for a dingo in some of those photos. Especially the snake one, just change the snake and that's a dingo, lol.

Can you source all the obscure japanese spitz breeds easily enough in the US? I'd probably have a hard time here, just shiba and akita probably. I have met some Jindos though too.
If I was going to pick one just based on looks it would probably be the Kai Ken, bit of a sucker for brindle. Though I also do like the "tuxedo" of the karelian.

I would own a yellow dog but I can’t do that without the risk of them being shot because of them being a “coyote” here.
Ima stick with Border Collies. Or a Kelpie if I can find one.

Honestly that looks SO much like a dingo it would be pretty risky here as well.

Honestly that looks SO much like a dingo it would be pretty risky here as well. The people in my area shoot basically anything yellow for coyotes. Even a Golden Retriever. Even some dogs who just have a weird coat texture such as Norwegian Elkhounds. A dog doesn’t even have to look like a coyote for them to be shot here. For them not to, they’d either have to have a smart hunter or a coat color with black or white.
