Wrong. Only american black bears and panda bears suck at killing at a time (Stirling et al. 1981: Fig. 3). On 2 occasions, Kiliaan and Stirling (1978) found lone walruses, one an adult, the other almost 2-years-old, that had been attacked and killed by a polar bear at a haulout hole. They also reported a kill by Inuit of a walrus at a frozen-over hole, and an observation of an adult walrus that had been attacked by a polar bear but survived. From these observations, they suggested that walruses overwintering in areas with restricted breathing and haulout sites might be more vulnerable to predation, and that predation by polar bears might be more frequent than previously seemed apparent. This paper presents observations of predation by polar bears on both young and adult walruses in a polynya area during the late winter and early spring. www.bearbiology.org/fileadmin/tpl/Downloads/URSUS/Vol_8/Calvert_Stirling_8.pdfRakov, N.V. (1970) Causes of mortality of the wild boar and its interrelation with predators in the Amur territory. Zoologicheskii Zhurnal "In years of crop failure, brown bears are well adapted to the hunt wild boars.Bears do kill boar of all ages and classes.(Including adult and prime male wild boar)" Predation on Ungulates Predation on the ungulates is a trait of ecology of brown bears typical for different areas of the species range (Bromlei, 1965, Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky, 1979, Zavatsky, 1979, Lavov, 1987, Pazhetnov, 1990 and Bobyr, 1991). The extent and nature of predation vary with the seasons. In most cases, this method of feeding behavior is of the greatest importance for bears in the spring (Pazhetnov, 1990). This statement is typical for brown bears in Sikhote-Alin (Bromlei, 1965, Yudakov and Nikolaev, 1987, Yudin, 1993 and Kostoglod, 2006). In summer there is a decline of predation related to the abundance of feed (Bromlei, 1965). In autumn with the abundance of fattening feed of vegetable origin predation is not expressed, but during hungry years it is on the contrary typically occurring among bears (Bromlei, 1965, Rakov, 1966 and Abramov, 1972). Wild boar and red deer (Cervus elaphus) are the most common ungulate prey of brown bears in Sikhote-Alin. You're an asshole, Wyatt. But a good one. A good asshole.

Yea, I think they are capable of taking out even bigger prey but its just too much of a hassle to actually catch up.

No one said they can't kill, just that they suck at killing. All those examples simply proved that true. But I do agree with Ling here- Bears don't need to be great at killing prey quickly as they can pretty much maul/wrestle with their strong, robust build. Sent from my SM-A105FN using Tapatalk They're as good as they need to be. They can just sit on things and eat them alive, they can endure their prey not being killed efficiently. They have the strength, durability and stamina to be fine with alive prey that they can casually eat safely. The fact cats are SO good at killing, comes with being SO bad at fighting. They have to be great at killing because they can't endure the struggle, are in great danger of gassing out or being injured if the prey is alive and fighting back.

That Laika-esque dog was just entirely unscathed. Do you have any videos of dogs killing or subduing caiman? Here it is -

What do you mean by sucking at killing? Is it just killing slow? In that case I guess you have an argument although big cats don't always kill fast either. This tiger didn't kill faster than the brown bear wrestling the bison or the black bear on the boar. Also Asiatic black bears have been known to paw swipe buffalo to death but that could be an exaggeration.

Black Bears are not as effective at killing prey as other predators because they tend to bite the back of prey or just eat them alive.
