Wrong. Only american black bears and panda bears suck at killing
at a time (Stirling et al. 1981: Fig. 3).
On 2 occasions, Kiliaan and Stirling (1978) found lone
walruses, one an adult, the other almost 2-years-old, that
had been attacked and killed by a polar bear at a haulout
hole. They also reported a kill by Inuit of a walrus at a
frozen-over hole, and an observation of an adult walrus
that had been attacked by a polar bear but survived. From
these observations, they suggested that walruses overwintering in areas with restricted breathing and haulout
sites might be more vulnerable to predation, and that
predation by polar bears might be more frequent than
previously seemed apparent. This paper presents observations of predation by polar bears on both young and
adult walruses in a polynya area during the late winter and
early spring.

Predation on Ungulates
Predation on the ungulates is a trait of ecology of brown bears typical for different areas of the species range (Bromlei, 1965, Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky, 1979, Zavatsky, 1979, Lavov, 1987, Pazhetnov, 1990 and Bobyr, 1991). The extent and nature of predation vary with the seasons. In most cases, this method of feeding behavior is of the greatest importance for bears in the spring (Pazhetnov, 1990). This statement is typical for brown bears in Sikhote-Alin (Bromlei, 1965, Yudakov and Nikolaev, 1987, Yudin, 1993 and Kostoglod, 2006). In summer there is a decline of predation related to the abundance of feed (Bromlei, 1965). In autumn with the abundance of fattening feed of vegetable origin predation is not expressed, but during hungry years it is on the contrary typically occurring among bears (Bromlei, 1965, Rakov, 1966 and Abramov, 1972). Wild boar and red deer (Cervus elaphus) are the most common ungulate prey of brown bears in Sikhote-Alin.
In the 1970s, Asian black bears were reported to kill and eat Hanuman langurs in Nepal.[39] They appear to be more carnivorous than most other bears, including American black bears, and will kill ungulates with some regularity, including domestic livestock.[40] Wild ungulate prey can include muntjacs, serow, takin, malayan tapir[41] wild boar[42] and adult water buffaloes, which they kill by breaking their necks.[43]
