Scientists don't focus on that, at all, let alone for decades. He knows what he knows and does what he does. I'm giving my analysis on the combative interaction, which is what I do. Think for yourself. I trust in my own analysis of how animals, all animals, perform and function. That is my focus. I'm interested in the evidence, and from there I'll make my own analysis.
