I heard somewhere that skunks aren’t as ferocious as other mustelids, but I still think it wins.

Mutual respect in the wild, in a death battle the cat should have this quite handily with some gnarly injuries if it's -
A. on the smaller side
B. doesn't get its ambush
Face to face a good cat wins but in reality the attempt is not worth it.
