This topic was hotly debated especially on the late AVA forum. Tundra Eagle almost always back up the spotted hyenas 😉. On a more serious note, I think a male leopard can win in a one on one combat but it usually retreats from the spotted hyena. Only few like Mafafunfenyane, Tjololo stand their ground.

How big do you think a leopard would need to be in order to be favored over a 140lb matriarch? Probably between 140 pounds at least. The leopard has greater swiftness and seems to have greater weapons. Spotted hyenas, however, seem to be about equal in strength to leopards when it comes to tug o war depending on individuals.
