Many people like Bolushi (no hate to him btw) say that they doubt them simply because a Kelpie being a pig hunting dog is weird. I disagree. Even when doing their job, which is working cattle, they are rough and gritty as shit. I have watched Kelpies and many Australians use them as pig dogs, mainly because most every dog breed down there can be used as a pig dog, even Border Collies. They aren’t picky about it like a lot of North Americans I see. Kelpies when they are pig dogs are mainly rough cur bailers, they bay, and are pretty rough with the pigs but are smart about it. I haven’t seen a Kelpie as a catch dog, though weirdly enough i’ve seen a large Border Collie be a catch dog.

Funnily enough they actually don't need to wear armour at all. It's only the hard dogs that wear armour.

Well they do lug if they think they can, but quickly disengage and revert to bailing when they can't. Generally very good at keeping themselves safe and don't need vests. Our much used gif features two kelpies - Notice only the two adult bull arabs have vests, the two kelpies and even the trainee bull arab pup don't need them because they are pussies. Lol.

Just asking but does everyone here only care about dogs that fight or wrestle with other animals in some way? Like are they the only breeds that interest you? I'm not saying that offensively, I'm just generally curious.

Just asking but does everyone here only care about dogs that fight or wrestle with other animals in some way? Like are they the only breeds that interest you? I'm not saying that offensively, I'm just generally curious. My favourite animal happens to be one of the dog types that fights and wrestles with other animals. Boarhounds. The same way you like Megalodon and T-rex, I like boarhounds. There are also other dog types I like, I just like them less. Dogs are officially divided into hundreds of breeds but realistically are more like about 25 (give or take) different animals. Each of those would hold a different rank on my "list of favourite animals, from best to worst". Boarhounds are number 1, but the others might not even make it into the top 10. Some types of dog do very little for me. Like retrievers for example, or for that matter livestock guardians. I don't hate them, they just don't interest me that much. The same way maybe a "tasselled wobbegong" might not ignite a fire under most shark fans. They're probably more likely to be interested in Great whites, tiger sharks, bull sharks, etc. Well I'm the same, I like dogs, but some dog types are just more captivating to me than others. BUT on an "interpersonal level" I do also generally like basically all dogs. Like if I meet a dog I usually like it's goofy affable nature. This kind of dog appreciation I think is shared by most people who aren't psychopaths, most people "like dogs" in this way. BUT the other kind of dog appreciation, where you really respect them as impressive capable living organisms and want to research and analyse them more deeply, that is actually very uncommon. And yes it can be difficult to extend THAT kind of appreciation over cockerpoos and pekingeses. I do aspire to know all there is to know about all dogs but for sure the more combat - oriented gripping dog family currently take up more than their fair share of my knowledge and interest.
