Design featuresMegalodon was an animal that attacked from below. We know this, because we have many fossils of whales with incredibly stressed and injured areas around the rib cage and flukes. Megalodon was also fast enough to catch and match the speeds of dolphins and small whales, who are already incredibly fast and acrobatic. Megalodon would’ve needed a streamlined body, with a crescent tail to fit these requirements. The belly would also be pretty long, because Megalodon had a spiral intestine judging by it’s coprolites. Judging by vertebrae found, they are all pretty equal sized, and the build of a mako shark or great white seems to fit all of these requirements. Megalodon would've needed a proportionally giant tail like modern large sharks e.g. basking sharks and whale sharks. ModelA. Blender model B. More defined model with great white shark characteristics. Comparison with Great white shark

Very similar I know. Only slight differences being the shorter, stocker head and body and the longer Pectoral and Caudal fin(s).

A 20m long Megalodon with a body shape like this would only weigh like 60 tons max. Attachments:

So excuse my ignorance but these just look exactly like pics of great whites? What am I missing? I'd love to see some kind of interpretation of meg which factors in the mako relationship or even just dreams of weirder things.

I just put a great white's skin layer over the Megalodon's body for now.

@ling, what do you think of the more unique reconstructions of megalodon? It looks a little retarded, but it’s growing on me.

Fat retard meg seems like the true meg imo.

All jokes aside, I like that image because I bet it was true there was a whole community of fish that just travelled the world with any given meg.

I would take that with grain of salt. Not only was it made 3 years ago, but how he estimated the appearance of the shark were all by pure guesses. He would just say that Megalodon needed a strong nose to be able to ram whales and assumed that it was a giant balloon. I mean for one, why would the shark have a giant, thick nose? The more pin-point and smaller the nose (like most other sharks e.g. Shortfin mako shark) the better. Less drag and more precision. Like a bullet. It also just denies shark physics. The body doesn't get gradually smaller as you go down the back of the shark. It remains fat the whole way through. I'd doubt if this guy could even move.

Goofy reasoning but I now believe megalodon was some version of that. Perhaps slightly more structurally shark-ish.

Goofy reasoning but I now believe megalodon was some version of that. Perhaps slightly more structurally shark-ish. How? The guy who made it is braindead. Saying that a blunter nose would cause more internal damage to a e.g. whale. Well it wouldn't lol. The more aerodynamic the better. More speed, reduces water resistance and lower surface area causes more rupturing internally. To put it simply. If you fired a lead bullet at someone and fired a lead ball (both are the same weight assumptionally) at someone else, which is going to do more damage? The bullet is. The ball would just cause some decently detrimental problems surrounding your chest area, maybe you'd get a broken rib or something. But the bullet would just go right through you and fuck up your heart or something. See what I'm getting at here? There's no way in hell Megalodon looked like that. Similar to what I said earlier, I'd be surprised if this shark could even swim. Megalodon would've needed a proportionally giant caudal fin to be able to keep up a momentum and speed, and so that it could hunt smaller, maybe faster, whales. Ben G Thomas has always been a dick anyways. Needed views 24/7 so he'd just make up some random piece of crap to get attention.
