They are really good dogs, many here in South Georgia used on coons, bobcats, hogs, deer, feral cattle, and even armadillos less commonly. They will take anything that is weak from what i’ve seen. Coons, bobcats, piglets and small boars, calves, any sign of weakness or advantage the Cur sees and thats when they attack. Thats why they are so good at coursing and treeing small game, along with attacking and standing their ground. With big hogs, they act very rough while nipping the hog and if the hog charges they run away a little but then go back. Really good bay dogs for wild hogs, along with Catahoulas, Plotts, American Leopard Hounds, Redbones and Blueticks.
As for herding, there is no difference between herding and hunting. The one difference is though that one is working herds and the others are usually working on one hog, coon, bobcat, deer, armadillo etc. Many farmers complain about Black Mouth Curs attacking calves, which is why from what i’ve seen from them you should not use them on a young pair. They’re extremely gritty and will probably go after the calf first.
