Pretty cool. He specifically mentioned them being legit in the 80s which is exactly what I said in that other thread.
But honestly even the shitty recent ones I think will fuck up an sbt. My friend's ambull chubbs was probably a "johnson" or at least a hybrid of johnson x scott (or whatever) but trust me, it would have killed just about any SBT alive. It was very hard and serious and SOOOO powerful, and yes big. My experience with SBTs in fights is they are too small. For some reason that is not my experience with EBTs in fights. I'm not necessarily saying this indicates some big sweeping reality, but I will say I have full faith in an ambull against an SBT. Whether it's a scott, johnson, "plantation", "antebellum", "old white english" or whatever crap they want to say. Those american... bulldogs, those big white bulldogs of america, are too much for an SBT IMO.

I have also seen mongrels used as catch dogs. |

I think they "fell off" pretty quick, because even when I was on the internet in the early 00s MOST ambulls were actually hard legit serious rugged catch dogs. It was a no brainer they were better than dogos on average back then. Part of me still kind of subscribes to the mentality of that era and I place ambulls up high as one of the rare serious "breeds". But reality over the last couple of decades looks pretty grim. More relevant than that, because if SOME people take a dog breed and ruin it then whatever, that's on them and their specific line... but unfortunately it seems like the serious hard catchdog ambull breeders are disappearing. They used to be so easy to find. Actual scores of them had websites with their shredded serious working ambulls pulling on the ends of chains like game apbts. Ican't find any anymore and it's very odd.

I find that over here a lot of people prefer Ambulls over Dogos because they experienced Dogos being pussies and think they'll get you hurt. Meanwhile you will find practically no Ambull that's going to let go on you. Like, if I ask any hunter ''Ambull or Dogo?'' they will invariably say Ambull.
Johnson kept Ambulls alive but outcrossed them to english bulldog and st. bernard, fucking loser. Scott Ambulls are still good.

Yeah I think of johnson bulldogs as being similar to irish wolfhounds. Like they were a good dog, and I appreciate that someone kept them alive... but god damn that person did a shitty job of it. So many questions as to why they crossed in what they did. Just demonstrates ignorance on what they are supposed to be.
