I've had like 2 Border Collies, 2 Border Kelpies and 3 Cocker Spaniels. The Border Collies and Border Kelpies actually worked but the Cocker Spaniels didn't. They were just for 'pet' purposes.

1 Border Collie died of old age, the other died of bladder cancer. 1 Border Kelpie died due to having a fit (it had severe epilepsy), the other is still alive. And 2 of the Cocker Spaniels died from old age, while the other was given away.

The dogs I have owned.
Baxter, the first ever dog I owned myself was a Boxer. He died and here come the other two. Hell of a hunting dog, would gangbang the local coyotes.
Corbin is a Patterdale Terrier with a splash of Plott in him, and he has caught raccoons as he isn’t really phased by the pain, and loves to tree squirrels and chase anything. Caught many stuff with him.
Ross is my other dog, he is unknown. I got him from a shelter, he looks like a chihuahua/Terrier mutt of some sort. He is good at trailing and capture, he doesn’t really tree like Corbin. Though both are good, Ross can find cats, coons, and possums from miles away. Both Corbin and Ross are good at coordinating and cooperating with each other, the two are unrelated but these dogs care for each other. They would tear apart another dog for each other or me.

Many people already know, but these are the dogs that were actually mine-
Ralph - Bull arab x old english sheepdog (accidental breeding- father serious hunting dog) Jack - Staffy x unknown (random backyard breeder, give away) Boss - Australian Bandog ; neo mastiff (75%) amstaff (25%) (world reknowned reputable breeder of security/pp dogs) Bonnie- Bandog ; DDB x APBT (purchased from stranger/backyard breeder) Bones - Bull Arab (purchased from stranger - supposedly hunting lines, but possibly a generation or two away on at least one side) Nora - Kelpie x collie (rescue from rural area - highly suspect serious working sheep dog lines) Winnie - Bull Arab (bred by cousin - verified hunting lines)
Also briefly owned - Kado - Winnie's mother (also bred by cousin, retired working dog).

I'm surprised my uncle didn't use the Cocker Spaniel as a gun dog (he was the person I gave one of the dogs to). There were (and still are) a bunch of pheasants up where he lives. And of course my uncle, a farmer, has guns. Guess it just never crossed his mind.

Whats the story behind your collies/kelpies working? Did you or do you live on a farm?

My dog is quite athletic. I remember one time when we going out for groceries, I had put my dog into a small cabin and locked the gate (our dog had her own small shed-like room outside the house in a cabin (she was like one or two at the time). The gate must've been like five to six foot high. I went back to the car and jumped in the front seat like you do. But then I saw her racing down the driveway and up into the car's back window. I was honestly shocked. There was pretty much no space for her too have been able to jump the fence prior by using a run-up. She must've just leaped over it right there on the spot. Honestly I was bewildered. It was the first time that I had had a Kelpie. Like, damn.

You need a hell of a dog to work peafowls and chickens. Most Border Collies and Kelpies hunt all your poultry and herd your domesticated ungulates.

Most Border Collies and Kelpies hunt all your poultry and herd your domesticated ungulates. She does it for fun. They don't live in a big open field. It's more of a small woodland-like area. My dog doesn't actually bite a lot, at least not anymore. My old Kelpie that died was awful with herding, etc. She kept biting at the ankles of the sheep, which, of course, is dangerous as hell. I'm surprised her jaw didn't get torn off. She was always like that though. Was a very sick and timid dog that didn't like herding or messing with other animals.

A head dog is th best way to control livestock. HardcastleA head dog is mostly Border Collies, Kelpies, or any herding dog which likes going for the head. Many dogs though when the bull comes charging they throw themselves at the heels. The only time I can see why this would be useful is in actually decent working Heelers who push cattle and pigs in trailers. But for Border Collies and Kelpies, etc. its useless.

Yeah she was a bad worker. Never was interested in anything to do with sheep or cattle. Maybe this was because of her health, or maybe she was just one of those one-off ones.

There are lots of off ones. Most of the individual dogs I listed are off ones in one way or another, just the way it is.

At the same time, this is my face reading Wyatt's post most of the time - Just always weirdly off... Obviously heeling serves a purpose, for example. He's characterising as an innate flaw which is incorrect.
