My list; if there is a particular athlete from a sport who I like more than the one I'd consider the greatest of all time, I'll write his name in brackets. I only listed sports I follow or watch regularly.
Bodybuilding: Dorian Yates (Tom Platz)
Boxing: Muhammad Ali (George Foreman)
Football: Lionel Messi (Günter Netzer)
Formula 1: Ayrton Senna (Kimi Räikkönen)
Ski Racing: Hermann Maier
Strongman: Brian Shaw

I consider Brian Shaw the most classic embodiment of strongman of all time.
In bodybuilding, Ronnie Coleman.
Usain Bolt.

- Lebron James
For me that's probably "the top 5", in accordance with my perception, but not my opinion. Meaning I like different athletes better. But these seem to be the greatest from what I can tell.
Favourites of mine personally would be - Greg Inglis, Jonah Lomu, Zion Williamson, Lawrence Taylor, Brian Dawkins, Tracy McGrady, Jon Jones, Barry Sanders, Serena Williams, Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce.
But... like the movie thread... I feel like I'm missing out so many. I actually am a huge admirer of a wide spectrum of athletes.

Surprised that footballers never really come to anyone's mind. At least here. I guess that may be largely due to the fact that the majority of the people on this forum are either from North America or Australia, which are like, the two continents that give the least shits about football.
There definitely are some really top-class footballers that deserve to be considered "The Greatest Athletes Of All Time", such as Ronaldo (7), Messi, Carlos, Zidane, Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo (9), Mbappe, Cruyff, Neymar, Rooney, and even more "historical" footballers that I can't think of off of the top of my head.
Just a pity that there isn't a lot of people from Europe here. I might be the only one tbh.
