It works out pretty well, show me a bear killing a pitbull. Dumb pet pitbulls are still good enough to outfight a black bear. The owners step in and chase or fight of the Black Bear from killing their pibbles. Dogs are poor fighters that require human help and/or aid from other dogs. There is an account of an escaped game dog that was out for weeks and turned up torn to shreds limping on a road after fighting a bear.

Seeing the bear exhausted with its ear a dangling piece of flesh after it took 2 minutes to kill the dog would be quite a shocker. Easy for that bear? Now x the dog's weight by 4 and divide the bear's weight by 10. What do you think happens? Well the bear's ears are like 6ft high above the ground. A staffy can jump like, what, up to 3.5ft? Yeah... don't think so. Besides the bear might be on it's hind legs... which is like, over 12ft tall. And the Arcotherium's closest living relative is the Andean bear, which is a really shit bear actually, only slightly surpassing the Giant Panda. While the Sloth bear is a monster, and doesn't take shit from anyone. Now, female Sloth bears have survived being mauled by male Bengal (Bengal) tigers. Some assaults lasting for over 5 mins, oh and the tiger doesn't get away unharmed in case you were wondering. Some people here believe Pitbulls have superpowers that makes them able to jump 1.5-2 meters to lacht to the back/head of a moose or a bear in one go. And that once they get there it's nearly impossible for their grip to break. Also if Arcotherium decides to stand up (bears are excellent grapplers and can fight both in 4 and 2 legs, in fact they prefer fighting in 2 legs when brawling with other bears) then the Pitbull now has to jump 4 meters to latch to the Bear's ear. Lol These people unironically believe in a fight between a 500kg Moose/1.000 Bison and a Pitbull, the Pitbull would jump to the back/head in one go and beat it up. I don’t know if there ever were canines that were capable of killing big bovines like that, period. Felines, sure, but those felines were specialists with long fangs meant to paralyze. And they had the strength to leap onto the bovine’s back in one go. Pits are not that athletic

If someone wanted to argue dogs can't kill bears, I would just shut up because it is a good point. But when you start talking about bears easily killing dogs? eh... no. They don't. They have a weirdly hard time and dogs have a weirdly good time dealing with bears far larger than themselves. In fact, what primates are to dogs, dogs are to bears. That is what I would say. Please press me so I can be bothered posting the evidence.

My argument was that the Dog would have quite the challenge jumping 2 meters (or more in the case of the largest bear species) to latch to the Bear's head. Let alone doing it in one go. A Bear will have some difficulty killing a Dog just like a human has some difficulty hitting an annoying Mosquito with a racket.

Bulldogs aren't that Athletic, Greyhounds are the Dog breed capable of jumping the highest, and even them the World Record for a Greyhound jumping the highest is 167cm, i repeat, world record. This is not your average Greyhound, let alone your average Bulldog, and that's still significantly below the height of the smallest Brown Bear sub-species, the Himayalayan Brown Bear, 190cm for males standing in hind legs.

While running away, which is what bears do when persecuted by dogs, their ears will rarely be more than 2 feet off the ground.

I was replying to Bolushi saying that in a fight between an Arcotherium weighting a ton and a half and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier weighting 12kg, the StaffBull would latch to it's ear and "leave it a bloody mess", how? Jumping 4 meters?

Yes, Black Bears are extremely skittish, they are like this because they used to be prey when there was more megafauna in North America. There are videos of Golden Retrievers and even a House Cat chasing them off backyards lol, but Brown Bears are entirely different and much more defensive.

Whatever. In these hypothethicals we assume a fight in which neither side backs off, so the Bear is almost surely going to start the fight on hind legs, making it impossible for a Bulldog to reach it's head. Since as i said before the world record jumping for ANY dog breed is 167cm for a Greyhound, that's a world record for a Greyhound, not your average Greyhound, and let alone your average Bulldog.
So no. If the Bear is on 2 legs (Bears are nearly as intelligent as primates, they understand it's a good tactic when they are fighting small things so they are not able to be reached) it's impossible for the Bulldog to go anywhere near the head. Assuming it's a medium or large Bear sub-species.
