Bolushi How dangerous really are alligators in Florida? Not very. Don't fuck with them they don't fuck with you. Even in mating season they won't mess with you. I've actually waded in a pond where I was 100% sure an alligator lived there, wasn't worried in the slightest. The big males might be worrying, like if you take a swim and you see that gator go into the water you should really gtfo right then. It's stupid to swim with the gators, but it's not just suicide. Attacks do happen, they're dangerous, but they're clumsy and the only time you will be in danger is when you ask for it. People here freak out about alligators when there are people who just waltz up to them with pitchforks and implant the pitchforks into their brain. They're seriously not a factor at all. Don't swim in pools of water = 0 danger. What they will do though is kill your dog, or a little kid that's on the edge of the water. Some guy lost his Rottweiler here to a gator a while back, and someone told me he lost one of his hog dogs to a gator. But with adult humans they're fine. You can actually keep them as pets, they're much more safe and chill than crocs:  |

I've seen people swim with gators lots of times but there's also quite a few cases of gators killing people, so they aren't totally harmless. Like freshwater crocs in Australia are literally completely harmless and have never killed anyone. Gators seem a big step up from that. I think they are underestimated a lot, but yeah seem pretty chill a lot of the time.

Ever seen a black bear in Florida? No, have seen florida panther (s?) though. There aren't bears here I don't think, in the way of larger carnivores I've only ever seen gators, bobcats and panthers. No bears or coyotes. |

I saw a US doco where this guy's job was to scuba dive in this golf course pond to collect golf balls, a pond with a decent resident gator in it.
Irrc it actually was in Florida. Apparently over all his many dives it has never been a problem, although he keeps a little aware of the gator.

Why do you hate hyenas so much Bolushi? I don't, after all striped and brown hyenas are rugged criminal thugs that beat up leopards and can thrive anywhere. They are very shitty at fighting and not many people are catching on to this obvious fact. |
