Surprised no one has any fish they think are cool. I do, it’s just hard to choose because I love them all.

You could start listing some cool ones. Don't have to get them all in your first post. I also really like Panchax. I owned a golden Panchax- It was a really elite predator. I'd live capture flies in my hand and then just throw them under the hood and they'd fly around on the light and stuff, and the panchax would watch them and track them down, then leap out of the water and pluck them from mid air. It was a really fun little dude. Clown Loaches are a good time as well. They have a lot of personality and play around living up to their "clown" moniker.

I think that pike characin would make a very bad aquarium fish. Flighty fish that can zip around too fast just wreck themselves bashing into walls. I had bala sharks once which were terrible for this. Even the perches would probably not be ideal, but then people put just about anything in aquariums and they are definitely cool fish. An aquarium/pet store near me has a QLD Lungfish in an Aquarium, one of my favourite fish but don't really think of it as an aquarium fish- I've seen them in the wild too, slowly foraging through shallow back-country streams. They are one of my favourite animals in general.

Possibly is the QLD lungfish actually, or the Murray Cod- Bit biased for the local fish I'm likely to see in the countryside that I like to wander around in. I also like Estuary Cod, that is partly because they taste so good and again are local fish- Of the cartilaginous varieties I like whale sharks for some reason, and Shovel Nose -

@ling They just look majestic and interesting. I can't really describe it but the spottiness and the hugeness and the fact they are found in really clear tropical waters surrounded by little fish, it's like they are a wandering alien ecosystem or something. I know they are technically "boring" as filter feeders, but thevisage of them does something for me.

Sawfish are cool. Sadly they're critically endangered. They used to reach to be able to reach 7m in length, now most (not all) are like 2m, maybe 2.5m. 2 big ones:

They used to reach to be able to reach 7m in length, now most (not all) are like 2m, maybe 2.5m. 2 big ones: I always thought it was insane that they could get so big, but partly because I used to believe they were 7 metres long swimming around in inland freshwater rivers and creeks, which is not technically true as "freshwater sawfish" only spend a few of their earliest years in freshwater then move out to sea. But imagine being in a quiet stream in a jungle and then you look down and a 7 metre monster with a chainsaw for a head swims past, gently brushing against your leg. That is what I used to think was possible. Sadly (or fortunately) not.

I find skates, electric torpedo rays, and fiddler rays all very interesting. Same for the large deep sea sharks like sixgill, Greenland, and megamouth sharks.

When I was younger these were my favorite aquarium fish and I had 2 male betta fish, red and IIRC blue. Little fish fighter me read up on them not one tiny bit, and so 2 male betta fish in same tank. One bit the other's tail and bit part of it off, and my grandma actually took one and raised it at her house for a bit. I would visit it sometimes. I was like 6 or 7 I think. This is what they looked like -
