They're literally the same size. Like almost down to the last digit. So I don't know. Maybe it's a mismatch to one of the contestants? I'm not a dog guy. Sorry if this is one-sided despite it being a parity match-up. vs

Not too sure. It's a good match up. The greek shepherd is a pretty close relative of the sarplaninac and pretty much the same. Both of them are also incidentally pretty similar in size and build and temperament to the Bankhar and Gaddi Kutta, which are the "snow leopard antagonists" of the dog world. There is probably a very ancient connection between these 4, in fact. The genes don't necessarily look close, but I'd wager gaddi/bankhar style dogs migrated into the balkans at some point thousands of years ago with sheep and goats, and the ancestors of those are the greek shepherd and sarplaninac, which have not changed much since. Bankhar and Gaddi are down for a scrap and can go toe to toe with snow leopards without easily dying. That much is certain, because that is why they exist. They'd still be dingoes if that didn't become a requirement in their evolution. They differ from Dingoes JUST to stand up to snow leopards and leopards and make human settlements and livestock less desirable. That is why they got bigger and scrappier and more durable and nasty. Purely for that reason alone. The sarplaninac and Greek Shepherd are evolutions on the bankhar/gaddi, but fairly rustic and similar. Sometimes an evolution could mean an improvement in fighting ability or a reduction, depending on where the pressure in the evolution is coming from, but in this case I feel like it stayed basically on course. So I consider the greek shepherd basically perfectly designed to turn off a snow leopard and fight off a snow leopard and not easily die to a snow leopard. Usually it will be the "victor" in an altercation in that it will send the snow leopard running after a brief scuffle (possibly even failed ambush attempt) to look for easier prey at a later date. BUT, in a hypothetical fight to the death things could sway the other way. The snow leopard is the far better killer in this match up, the greek shepherd fights to deter and has no committed desperation to try and finish off its opponents. If the leopard can't escape, the fight will be drawn out and messy, the dog will probably be winning for most of it, but won't be doing much damage. Even in the leopards misery and desperation it will be better at defensively accumulating damage on the Shepherd, and there's a good chance the sheep dog will succumb to its injuries before the snow leopard does.

Wow, ling makes a good dog match-up. Who could've known such thing could be done..?
